Balearic, Chill Out & Sunset Music

I've been planning some kind of name for my Balearic stuff for a while now, and I thought I'd start it in the form of a mixtape. After a few gigs and sessions, I already have these for the rest of the year, but let's see how they get released. Brisa Balearica is the name of the series and here's the first part. If you're a radio person or curating guest mixes somewhere, I have some material ready. You can also come and listen to the music live at WOM Radio Cafe on the last weekend of September if you're in Ibiza. 😎

I was too young when he used to do Tonka in Brighton with Harvey but got to know him a bit later on when he was living in Brixton 2000s, doing all these dodgy warehouses, railway arches and stuff in that area and the music blew my mind. Much of it is a blur now but I do remember one thing he did where he got Larry Heard over to the Prince of Wales and that was pretty special

a few picks from the last week:

Not entirely sure this was a good idea, but were I listening somewhere more exotic than my desk, that view could abruptly change...

Staying with the classics, all-time fave The Bottle is getting re-released. Commenting on the single's success and style, Gil Scott-Heron later observed "Pop music doesn't necessarily have to be shit"

A really gorgeous edit of Yvonne Fair. Love the guitar. Really need to find out who Sonic Funk Foundry is/are because it is a treasure trove of forgotten goodies.

Lou Hayter & Black Science Orchestra - Wish you were mine (maybe too much vocal on the og. head for the dub)

the awesome Richard Sen remix of Disappointing has been around for ages, and stole the show when the late Andrew Weatherall played it in the castle. Looks like it's finally seen the official light of day. A darkly seductive chugger made even more powerful by John Grant's haunting voice

Not even noticed - Aerial. Lush dream house with a subtle acid riff

No record in the history of recorded sound made me sweat on a dancefloor more than Acperience, so lets see how Mr BC get on

And as per usual, all roads lead back to Alex Kassian
