A good (sustainable) life

Spain has been a leader in desalination for decades. I expect you'll start seeing this effort increasing even farther in the coming decades.

Lots of energy required...
No question. Always more in than out, but it's either have no water or use existing resources. I think they're best play will be to leverage solar for the power requirement and start pushing green initiatives (water conservation, more efficient irrigation, etc.)

We shift crude oil half the way around the world in huge tankers, yet there seems little in the way of obtaining fresh water where there's plenty of it to places where there's drought. If we can shift oil and gas by pipeline/tanker hundreds of miles, why not water? If we can get away from gas/oil then those very tankers can shift fresh water instead.

We do. There's lots of examples of long range water distribution systems. Trying to retrofit those tankers for potable water, then shipping it, then distributing it would be incredibly inefficient. There's better options readily available.

Seeing a few people supporting Futuro Vegetal, not just green stuff but class issue too, this one commenting on the extreme divide between the yacht crowd and workers forced to sleep in cars.

Climate action needs to go along with socialism, so that the poorest aren't being punished for problems created by the rich. Maybe, just maybe, with some of the high temperatures we're seeing across Europe, we'll start to take the problem seriously. The irony is these high temperatures could have an effect on tourism, mass tourism being one of the factors that has contributed to climate change.

i reckon temps would have to get unbearable (40-45C+) to the point of people collapsing/hospitals filling up or droughts limiting pools before tourism gets hit.

Everyone’s virtuously green until it hits their own holiday plans. And the polluters know it..

I wish we was seeing the high temperatures that they’re moaning about across Europe in England.

Its been gloriously erratic in Yorkshire today, pounding rain, win, hot sun. Britain has some beautiful places for a holiday but the weather is always a lottery!

It’s been more like October in Swansea over the last few days, but I think I’ll take it over 40 degree heat!

I think you have to consider these sorts of statistics.

These are the sort of people who should be targeted initially to drastically change their habits.

Not just aviation though.. the greater issue in Spain is water, irrigation and too many tourists concentrated, stretching everything. Obviouslly all facilitated by greed and a very few lucky winners. Gen Election coming up. Everyone I know here (even Nats) praying Sánchez clings on.
