You comments still didn't clarify how long you've supported Chelsea for tho ;), I pressume its longer than the Mr A's era, you know when they had no money and were borderline bankrupt...

Tom was telling me yesterday that when he used to go to Chelsea games with his dad when he was a young pup, they used to have collection buckets at the gates to 'Save Stamford Bridge' And he used to put his pocket money in it every week

no wonder they were £70m in debt.

bet he spent it all on sweets too.

I had a pal who I met on holiday...in Ibiza funnily enough when I was 14, he lived in Southfields and was chelsea mad. I went to a few chelsea games with him, stood in the shed, and to be honest stamford bridge was a shed in them days, apart from the big meccano east stand, which towered above the rest of it!!! even went to oxford utd away!!!

And now look at them, £1million pound a year boxes that you've got to commit yourself to for 10 years

I'm thinking about buying 3 £1million a year boxes to tie myself to Stamford Bridge for the next 10 years
They don't require the 10 years anymore. That was a Ken Bates policy.

for indepth response Morbyd but it was a simple question which only required a simple answer.........thanks for a bit of your history though, I feel as though I know you 10 times better and there was no implying that you don't matter as a fan (reading between lines there I feel!) so disrespectful is something I'm not  .

I think its good to see that americans take an interest in football (especially the Glazers  )......but lets be fair its a very small %age of which you are hence the ignorance of us stupid ass Europeans as you call us  and to quote you "I've been supporting my team ever since my daddy took me to my first game and have no free thoughts of my own" what do you expect when your 5/6 years of age, you grow into things your not a wealth of knowledge about football teams so you go with the colour of kit or what your dad tells you cos at that age they know best......so a little unfair of you I feel!!!!!
Sorry.... I guess I was combining your comments with some of the earlier ones and perhaps reading between the lines, but don't tell me that's not what you were thinking!

I chose to support Chelsea for concrete reasons and none of them have to do with money or glory. Easy to be critical of that since I'm a relative newcomer (though before the '03-'04 season), but it's no worse than choosing a team just beause your daddy supported it. At least there's more thought involved... that was my point.

And, FYI, soccer is the no. 2 participation sport among kids in the US so it's not just a small percentage who enjoy the game. It has not taken off at the professional level, though that is changing. Ask Fulham 8)

In fact, my hometown team DC United, in (barely) losing to Chelsea, lost fot the first time in 8 games against EPL teams. 8)

and they're not all 1 million now... the smaller ones towards the ends are slightly cheaper

I know but do I really want to save a few thousand pounds and then end up with some poxy small box

nope that's not what I was thinking at all, I've read some of your Chelsea posts and you do make valid points regarding the 'english' game ;) except for your most recent

I would disagree, like I said when your 5/6 knowledge of footy teams is limited but you get a chance to grow with them through rough and smooth (I would have experience of that being a Utd fan ;) ).....no comparison to when you are in your 20's!!!
