i've just been telling bambon that IMO torres has always been one of those players (like Luis Garcia) that is frustrating at times and gives the ball away and needs a rocket up his behind BUT he just always has that knack of scoring vital goals at vital times or the ability to produce that moment of magic to change a game. (i'm thinkin at camp nou this season amongst other things)

i hated garcia at first for liverpool but then realised he was a match winner and to that end we needed to accomodate him.

bloody germans look like they top their group. now let hope england dont cock it up and finish 2nd, cos gemans will be in munich for their next match.
 
thank god for stuart pearce and sam allardyce for actually acknowledging that sweden turned up tonight and England didn't just fart away 2 points.

i'll admit england played very well in the first half (worryingly). joe cole :o

they were found out in the second half though. you did well to avoid germany. interesting to see how seriously they treat ecuador though.

Good 1st half from England, but again failed to turn up in the 2nd (happens too often). Cole was brilliant through out. Hargreaves managed to shut up a few critics too.

Was good to see England defence fall appart in set pieces because according to some of the press it's supposed to be the best in the tournament.
 
Czechs v Italians in 1 hour.. should be a cracker.. Czechs need a win to get through, Italians only need a draw..
No bets on the italians shutting up shop from the 1st minute then :? :lol:

To be honest I would rather be playing Germany than Ecuador. The Germans play more like our style and pace. Given our alarming tendancy to fade in the 2nd half the Ecuadorians could easily give us a nasty shock- they play faster, are more used to the heat and, as Ecuador is in the Andes they will have vastly superior stamina due to training at altitude.
 
world cup finally started tonight 8)

credit to the japs - they went for it, funnily enough it allowed brazil more space to play and well you all know the rest.

WELL DONE TO THE AUSSIES - earlier on in the thread i was saying how i didnt want them to go through. but i was right behind them tonight (had the laptop on with the brazil game on the main telly). what the **** happened with simunic though???
