If it's under 24c when I get there I'll sulk! But usually at the end of Sept, the sea's warmer than the hotel pools, but both are agreeable - especially late afternoon after a sunny day!

So between 27 and 29 depending on where you look. Of course local conditions such as a shallow sheltered bay will raise the temp, nowhere warmer I suppose than Formentera's lagoon which is barely a metre deep until you wade out 750m!

That's nuts. How can anyone swim in that?
The litmus test I guess will be whether hotter waters change the western Med, eg whether indigenous fish can not only survive rising temps but also new venomous predators - and how fishing catches adapt? Have yet to see lionfish on Spanish menus but could that change...?

The Mediterranean is warming, it’s a fact, after that it’s 28degrees on the surface, so in depth it remains colder, which is not the case for tropical seas! in Ibiza there are fewer and fewer octopuses due to global warming, for example, and the lion fish have already arrived in the Mediterranean (not yet in the Balearic Islands but it will happen within a few years) so yes , seeing lion fish on the menu can be real in the future there is also the blue dragon that was spotted on the Costa Blanca this summer (a Moluccan who lives in tropical waters)

for the balearic seas, the main threat of those hot water temperatures is that our so important seagrass (posidonia oceanica) can die if the water temperature is over 28ºc for a prolongued period of time.
in case you didn't know - the seagrass a lot of you 'eeeew' at when it gets washed up on the beach is the reason the balearic seas have such amazing clarity. the many seagrass meadows we have work like a washing machine for the sea and by being able to do the photosynthesis (same as the trees on earth), they ooze oxygen - isn't that amazing?

Our waters in the channel island have had massive numbers of octopus this summer, they are eating all the crabs, lobsters and other crustaceans. They have started popping up on menus all over the islands this year. Also blue fin tuna are here in massive numbers! All due to warming sea temps

I always though octopus on menus was mostly of the deep frozen variety caught elsewhere...
I only saw octopus twice on Ibiza in all these years. 2004 in Cala Bassa and 2023 in Salinas.

Agree with you about the tuna, but population of octopus
has decreased due to the high sea temperatures for several years now, the baby octopuses that are born during the 2-3 months when the water is too warm for them have difficulty surviving and about octopus on the menu, they have been in typical Mediterranean restaurant on the island forever and most of them in our time are now frozen food coming from abroad!

it's september and it's GORGEOUS
last night the temp has gone down quite a bit, first time I think I used a sheet in a long time and I've even used warm water today to shower, first time in months!
don't worry though, daytime temperatures are PERFECT right now and it's actually getting hotter again during the day this week. and then, but this is still unsure, there's a chance for some rain in the period between 8 and 12 sep possibly. it's a week away still so not very exact forecasts yet
