What's the best sound system you've ever heard?

This question occurred to me the Wednesday before last on the new terrace at Space.

That Funktion One in there's a thing of beauty. It's the main reason why I don't feel that the big roof-over is a terminal shame.

The Box at Ministry's an ear-bleeder too, but in a good way. And is it me, or have they cranked up the volume on the terrace at DC-10 this year?

Probably the loudest system I ever heard was at a dub reggae all-nighter at the Brixton Recreation Centre a few years ago. The bass was so enormous it felt like all your internal organs were being pushed up into your throat. In the condition I was in at the time this was a bit scary (it was about 6am and the end of a long night, the details of which are rather convoluted - hence, ending up at a dub event). Impressive, but not an experience to be had on a weekly basis.

the new terrace at Space is pretty damn good.

obviously, the main room at Ministry

i quite like the sound at The End too.
it doesnt suit all kinds of music but is perfectly tuned for deep tech house (unsurprisingly, as the place is owned by Laylo and Mr C)

box at ministry is fantastic, really enjoy the end too.

I particularly enjoy the acoustics of public life actually - suits techno/minimal/tech house very well, although the sound system isn't top notch, the room makes it sound better

The system at Fabric is incredibly crisp and clear - like clubbing to massive studio monitors! Personally though, loud doesn't equal good in my mind (maybe I'm getting too old). Some places have the music painfully loud, can't be good!

Loudest system I ever heard was seeing the Chemical Brothers at the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney - it was so loud that the bass was vibrating my eyeballs and so I couldn't see properly!! And if I tried to breathe in at the wrong time, the bass would kick it back out my lungs before I'd taken any oxygen. It was a bit scary really, but unforgettable!

I hate going clubbing and then having your ears ring for 2 days afterwards when it's a crap sound system  -

whilst some have been louder/bassier/whatever than some others...........my favourite, mainly for how crisp and clear it is, is the main room at Pacha but only if you stand right in the middle of the main dancefloor (quite a small space admittedly).

you booked ibiza in sep yet??

no - not sure if I can now because the house I'm moving to want us to pay rent on the 20th - which would mean 2 months rent in one month  over the moving period. Grr!

just stop spending hundreds each month on grooming products and that'll pay for it.;)

 I don't spend THAT much on grooming products

If you spent less time on that 'baby' of yours on the other hand... you might be able to buy me that first class ticket you promised

I agree that loudest doesn't equal best. That's why the Space new terrace speakers are so good - they give you complete clarity and while you can still talk to the person standing next to you without requiring the lungs of Monserrat Caballe.
