Weekend Plans!

Will be seeing the suntanned couple after their travels with the gang after work today, then going to see the fantastic Derrick May tomorrow night, hopefully see Barca regain top spot in la Liga!!

Great - glad we got that one sorted

what do we call that, a barman??
Barman? at the counter in a stadium? hmm.. suppose you could, but most people reserve that term for someone serving at an actual bar. I think you're wrong on that one.

Anyone else got another term?

Fun with semantics

The place where you are served is a bar, no matter what it looks like. A bar can be a building with a bar in it, but there can be a bar in a building that is not a bar, as in this case where the bar is in a stadium. Clear?

Only other term is a barmaid, the female of the species.

But still the most commonly used.

If you were female and worked in bar, I'd go to different bar.:p

this is what i think when i hear barmaid

you'd be loving it!;) :p  (not quite sure where this is going?8O !)

Sat - Off to Seville to watch Betis v Nástic with everyone (how is it possible that I am going to football 3 weeks in a row and I dont even support any of the teams playing?! :? )

Lou, I think your boyfriend should be very proud of you, three matches in a row are definitly a prove of true love

All I require from any barperson is the ability to serve drinks and give me the correct change. However, I have no doubt that drinks from barmaid Gregina would no doubt come with a side dish of 'famous sense of humour'. Hence the voting with my feet.

Not at all, my comedy genius balances your lack of wit. Plus, I feel that my tolerating your role as my sidekick, allbeit a sub-standard one, may help your self esteem. I'm a charitable guy.

Of course there can be bars in establishments that are not necessarily bars.
But in a stadium where you've got people selling burgers, dogs, cola and beers from behind a counter, I wouldn't call that a bar!

As for the barman/barmaid debate, we've got a wonderful gender-neutral term: bartender!

brevity is the soul of wit
overkill is the soul of buckley's 'wit'.
