i went too. i rather got the impression barcelona was one of those rites of passage places for the yoot of today given the number of backpacks everywhere.
I wouldn't want hot hot for a city break. I think Barcelona in April would be lovely.
Even when we were there in January last year the weather was gorgeous and we spent the days without jackets walking round and eating outside.
(silvia - do you feel invaded?![]()
)
That's cos you are a wild northener![]()
at Barbie, the wild woman of the north.
true. but not a surprise IMO, where else in europe do you have all that in just one city: art, delicious food, shopping, mediterranean climate and even a beach, a great football stadium, splendid nightlife...and all for quite reasonable prices (i'm not saying cheap).

That sounds like a hint to another spotligher to me!![]()
alicante! it doesn't have the football stadium and isn't so painfully up its own backside trying to maintain its trendier than thou image.
its loads cheaper than barcelona, drinks, food, going out, and hotels. it has a nicer beach AND right in the city centre. it's airport has more budget flights arriving at it than those of the national carriers, it's near to the city and once there you can do everywhere easily on foot.
i think it's a perfect weekend destination.
you can read about it here

(i should add that my glowing description is my own personal one and not spotlight propaganda)
Agreed. Alicante is lovely (Valencia is rather nice too and within relatively easy distance of Alicante airport for the purposes of cheap flights) - spent quite some time in both places as I lived in Torrevieja for a couple of years(nearby)
Urb Sol, Mar y Lago. You have to take the San Miguel turn off the N332
Bet not everyone on here knew that Ibiza isn't the only place to have a Ses Salinas nature reserve, complete with Flamingos
Where did you live in Torrevieja? I know it well![]()
Yes I know where you mean and my Mum now lives in San Miguel![]()
If you want something different then Salzburg is a reeeally great place for a weekend break if you're looking for a semi-quiet one.
It's not the first place you think of and it's great!
