Weekend Breaks

I wished i lived somewhere where I could go on 'weekend breaks'

Everything is so spread out, we have to drive 3 hours just to get to another dullsville city:cry:

i went too. i rather got the impression barcelona was one of those rites of passage places for the yoot of today given the number of backpacks everywhere.

If you want something different then Salzburg is a reeeally great place for a weekend break if you're looking for a semi-quiet one.

It's not the first place you think of and it's great!

true. but not a surprise IMO, where else in europe do you have all that in just one city: art, delicious food, shopping, mediterranean climate and even a beach, a great football stadium, splendid nightlife...and all for quite reasonable prices (i'm not saying cheap).

I wouldn't want hot hot for a city break. I think Barcelona in April would be lovely.

Agreed.

Even when we were there in January last year the weather was gorgeous and we spent the days without jackets walking round and eating outside.

That's cos you are a wild northener

(silvia - do you feel invaded? ;) )

Quite a bit, but I still keep few secret places where nobody can find me  ;)

alicante! it doesn't have the football stadium and isn't so painfully up its own backside trying to maintain its trendier than thou image.

its loads cheaper than barcelona, drinks, food, going out, and hotels. it has a nicer beach AND right in the city centre. it's airport has more budget flights arriving at it than those of the national carriers, it's near to the city and once there you can do everywhere easily on foot.

i think it's a perfect weekend destination.

you can read about it here

(i should add that my glowing description is my own personal one and not spotlight propaganda)

We went in August and i was worried it was going to be too hot, but it wasn't. We had lovely warm evenings were we could sit outside restuarants and stroll along the harbour etc. In the day we done the site seeing and spent half a day on the beach.

Splendid

Agreed. Alicante is lovely (Valencia is rather nice too and within relatively easy distance of Alicante airport for the purposes of cheap flights) - spent quite some time in both places as I lived in Torrevieja for a couple of years(nearby)

Where did you live in Torrevieja? I know it well :)

Urb Sol, Mar y Lago. You have to take the San Miguel turn off the N332

Bet not everyone on here knew that Ibiza isn't the only place to have a Ses Salinas nature reserve, complete with Flamingos

Yes I know where you mean and my Mum now lives in San Miguel :)

By the way (not been for a few years) is the crappy little amusement park in Santa Pola (Pola Park) still there. I went on the very rickety log flume there and managed to split my head open (I exagerate a little but it did bleed a bit)

:) It's a cliche but it really is a small world. Our place has been sold now (  wish we still had it as the property prices have rocketed recently) but I still go back from time to time. Lovely place though (even if my Urb was totally English and mainly populated by the elderly so a bit like living in Eastbourne but warmer)

I agree, it's a wonderful place.

Verona is another place that I would go back to like a shot for a weekend break. Or Palma.

For somewhere warm with a quick flight, Costa del Sol might fit the bill - not the most exciting place in the world but very pleasant. (Going there in April myself, for full length holiday though.)

Otherwise, you could do a lot worse than Brighton. Ok, it won't be boiling but it's such a lovely place.:)
