Is it possible to follow the coastline or do you have to use the road? How long does it take, or is it just best to get a taxi?

I think you better go by taxi, car, I dont know if the bus reach this beach. I think is quite far of Playa de'n Bossa if you are going walking.
Other members could give you better advice but for what I know is not a good idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Distance is no problem, just wondering if it was accessible and possible to do in half a day for example, thanks for the info :)

if you get yerself a copy of Rough Guide to Ibiza by our very own Stingray, there are directions in there. quite a long way though

One tip: Depending of the season can be really hot, you got to count on that. If is in july and august and you go early in the morning and depending of what it takes to get to it, take into account that at about twelve o'clock and for about 4 or 5 hours the sun it is going to hit a lot, it is very hot and there is a lot of humidity( is an island) . I think you must care about not getting burnt and what's more important the heat mixed with the walkin can be really unhealthy and very sweaty. If you decide to go take a hat, cream and plenty of water. I am from Mallorca and I like to do day excursions and I think that is not a good idea to do it in this months.

You can take the bus, it is about 20-25 minutes by bus from pdb. It is quite far. You can take a bus on the way from ibiza city to the airport. You get of the bus about 50-100m of the beach ...

It is a long walk, especially if you start from the Ibiza end of PDB. The sand is not designed for trudging. You can walk over the far end, Coco Beach, as it's called which takes you to Es Cavallet, Ibiza's best known gay beach. Then you can walk along the back past the salt pans ('salinas' in Spanish/Catalan hence the name of the area) or along the beach. Either way, be warned that you may find some interesting flora and fauna (that's as in fauna-cation  ) And beware of the mozzies they can be wicked round there, especially at dusk.

That said, it's a beautiful walk, one I did myself a few weeks back. You get flamingos there through the winter. Really.

The AA map shows a steep hiking trail between Torra de Sal Rossa and Es Cavallet
Defence Tower To Be Restored.
The historic defence tower in Playa den Bossa, known as the "Sal Rossa", is to be restored by the Consell Island Government. Once restored to its former splendour, the tower will be turned into a interpretation centre where visitors will be able to go & learn about the historic importance & uses of these defence towers which are found all around the island's coast. The tower & the land around it have been donated to the Consell Island Government by the Matutes family.

PDB - Es Cavallet

Walked it by the main road during heat of day. Wouldn't recommend it unless you're really into hot weather walking. Traffic not really a problem - keep well in on cycle path. Bus from top end of PDB (St Jordi Cruz - I think) to Ses Salinas is €1.25. Watch out for german queue jumpers on bus back though. Going to hire bikes in PDB this year - seems a much better idea.

Yes, easilly.

I'd ignore what the Rough Guide says - they claim that it only takes about 45 minutes! 8O I was walking at quite a pace and it took me somewhat longer than this.

Nice walk though. Just take plenty of water.

walking time

Hello peeps, roughguider here

The new rough guide is called Directions Ibiza, and has a lot more pics, if a lot less background info. The walk takes about an hour to Es Cavallet from the southern end of PDB, maybe an hour and a half if you're a slowcoacher.

be hanging around the forum a bit more in future months
