Veils on women

If these ****ing immigrant scum muslim people want to live in britain then they should act in the way we do, just as i would do if i ever emigrated to another country. they're all sad, pathetic, messed up twats the lot of them

No wonder there are problems when people adopt that sort of opinion.

They should act in the way you do? In other words, they should be condescending xenophobic racist idiots? :?

I am saying that if people do emigrate to britain then they should abide by the british way of life. and to be fair with muslims they take any little excuse to moan about us, they segregate themselves and complain about us being antisocial. the pope reads one anti muslim comment and loads of muslims want him dead. and you get all these muslim hate clerics wanting to transform britain into an islamic nation. now excuse me if this sort of stuff makes me angry

Hello everyone....don't want to sound like a dictator but this topic has moved on from veils. It might be better to write any more comments in the new thread, unless it's about veils of course ;)
Oh, I'm sorry... didn't realize we were supposed to drop everything and head over to your other thread. Please excuse the transgression

It's hardly all Muslims though, is it? No wonder people find it hard to integrate when they're faced with bigoted, sweeping statements like yours.

Don't forgot, back in the 70s, people said similar things about blacks. Society just loves to pin all its woes on a scapegoat and sadly for Muslims (or anyone who looks remotely Asian, even Sikhs) it's their turn at the moment.

It's so sad that people hold these views.

I COMPLETELY agree with you on this Clara, not just in regards to creating a scapegoat , but we live in a society that points fingers.. Heaven forbid we take our own responsibilty for our problems.

Many people are also incredibly uneducated about labeling anyone who appears to have an Arab or even South Aisian background as 'Muslim'

abide by the british way of life....could you explain what exactly is the british way of life so I am a bit clearer how it is you want immigrants to behave?...your views make you seem a general racist as opposed to someone who is informed and aware of the actual nature of the problem at the moment which concerns a small (but serious) minority

like the genralisations you make about immigrants whenever I meet foreign people on holiday they belive the British way of life is 24hr drinking, hooliganism and sleeping with anything that moves....obviously thats not entirely true (!) but maybe we could take the positives from other peoples cultures instead of expecting them to become like "british" overnight

why should immigrants completely lose touch with their own cultures and heritage just because they have come to England in search of a better life. Most immigrants work damn hard and are crucial to the economy and your posts make you seem completely ignorant.

Yes work needs to be done to integrate some communities but its a two way process that is never going to be solved when one side holds a pretty simple view of "they should abide by our ways"

jog on:roll:

simple solution.

wear what you like in public, in your own home.

but in work... whatever that might be doing, teaching, medicine where it is impractical, and where you need to "see" someones face take it off.

strange how the numbers of women now wearing traditional islamic dress have increased.

making a point maybe?

*braces himself from a stoning*

Do you think it is wrong that Spanish people are proud of their heritage? Do you hate it when they wave their flags, ride their proud horses, dance flamenco, drink Rioca, attend bull fights, throw tomatoes in the street and toast the good health of their king? I am delighted that Spain is as Spanish as it is. Spain used to be home to Arabs but does that mean Spain now has no right to be Spanish?

I really dont think your average spanish person does this. Just ask Sil.. when comes back from her bull-fight, gets off her proud horse and toasts good health her king... ;)

I do see your point though. Being spanish (well its what it says on my passport!) and living here I have no problems what so ever with flag flying for example, not sure why so many pc people are against it.

Where the hell is Buckley, by the way?

Never fear Morbster old chap, I'm back. BT have suffered the full extent of my verbal dexterity of late, but now they've got my wireless set up at home, I'm very please.

Right, everyone hold your horses. Some people on here, secret bigots aside, are trying to have a rational conversation about this. And there's the rub - the starting point of this argument is so irrational there can be no logical conclusion. Whether some Muslim women wear veils because of their faith, whether men oppress them into doing so because of their faith, whether some members of Opus Dei practise self-harm as part of their faith - it makes no sense to try and understand it because those who believe don't. They just believe. Logic and rationale don't come into it.

You can't engage, in my opinion, because fantasy does not deal in knowledge or an undestanding that we do we not know. It deals in false knowledge and understanding.

My last visit included a reply to her thread. Like her, it is no longer here (I think).

Wimbledon ponces not-withstanding, it's interesting to see that Spotlight's favourite be-veiled teaching assitant lost her discrimination case yesterday. Quite rightly so in my humble opinion.
