Ushuaia 2016

“Traveling to developing country? Avoid leaving tips”

Reviewed 1 week ago

The general feeling from all of the experiences is very mixed and in the rating of somewhere between visiting developing and civilized countries. The transportation from the airport was confirmed but the driver was waiting for me at another location and not at the gate for international arrivals and thus it took multiple calls from me to the hotel and back until we found out what was the problem. The hotel in general and it's "Anything can happen room" have nice designs and the room should provide a good quality of skin and hygiene care from Aqua Di Parma daily but cleaners constantly forgot to leave tubes with supplies in the room and I needed to ask them shampoo and/or bath gel when I was running out of what I brought with me. Out of 6 nights only one night was organized as it should. And when I asked for bath gel the cleaners did not understand me and gave me Aqua Di Parma Body Cream and thus I found out that this product is also included in the daily supply.

The Beach Club provides a good quality of breakfast, lunch and dinner and snacks and shisha could be delivered directly to the beach beds. The hotel's oyster and caviar bar by the pool has a good meat and fish food but instead of steamed vegetables I received twice deep fried ones. The bar also offers caviar both Iranian and from Caspii Sea in Italy (this geographic location was given to me by the bar supervisor to explain on where the second caviar comes from. Both caviars were looking and tasting the same and packed in the same shape glass canes with different labels of similar design. None of the caviars reminded me the original caviar which I know from The Caspian Sea.

The Ants night club offers music from known DJs nightly. Usually at the beginning I was dancing with the general crowd and when I was feeling that it is too packed I asked for VIP tables. My first two experiences taking the VIP table were excellent. I was explained that to get a table I need to pay minimum of $300. I bought bottle of Champaigne Rose Imperial for $450, the waiters were constantly adding champaigne to my glass and Security did an amazing job so I was able to feel very comfortable by dancing alone near the table: guys and girls who approached me and nicely behaved became my friends, we shared travelling experiences and stayed in touch and not nice folks were not allowed to approach my space. I gave 20% tip to waiters and good tips to security.

My third experience with Ants was on the night of music played by David Guetta and this night Ants served to VIP tables only Big bottles no less than $3,000. I bought one of it and became friends with big family at neighboring table. I arrived at 11pm and definitely did not finish bottle until midnight even I offered champaign to my new friends. At the end the lady from the club arrived and told me that I need to pay $3,000 together with 15% service which I did. My friends from Spain who live in The US warned me do not pay tips since employees in Spain have salaries and tips are not common. But since Ibiza is touristic area we all thought that tips might be common. Saying this I did not feel that leaving 15% from the bottle that cost $3,000 while you enjoy the music for 1 hour is appropriate.

My fourth night at Ants followed my third night and was completely ugly. I arrived around 11pm and since the club was crowded I directly asked for VIP table. The management offered me a table for $2,000 although it was no longer a BIG night when you need to buy a big bottle of champaigne. Instead of giving me a table in the back area of VIP they organized a new table in front which I thought is a nice guest. I received menu and ordered my favorite bottle for $450 (there were not BIG bottles to order as was the previous night so you could get a table for spending only $300 as during all previous nights). The security guys did not do a good job that night and some old drunk guys around were constantly falling into my space. And at the end (which is midnight) I was told to pay $2,000 plus 15% service. Please put attention that I ordered only one bottle for $450 and one shisha for $200.

In summary during the last night it was possible to get a table for $300 for the whole night but since I paid nice tips during my first two nights the team wanted me to pay absolutely crazy tip during my third night and absolutely unexplained price for the bottle of champaigne with shisha and one hour of dancing for my fourth night. Please also put attention that the more money I spent at Ants the less good service I received. :twisted:Thus, I believe that next time I will follow the suggestion of my Spanish friend and will not leave any tip from the beginning of my stay in order not to spoil the service.

Stayed July 2016, travelled solo

I didnt think people with that kind of cash would have time for Trip Advisor reviews

Or once you have that much money you have nothing but time, since you don't need to work anymore!

At least that answers some of my questions about what VIP at Ushuaia is like. Though it leaves me with new ones, like why would someone show up at 11pm for a show that ends at midnight? o_O

friends just back from Ushuaia, stayed for 10 days and said the service was pretty poor-waited 40 minutes on a drink at the sky bar

As a hotel it's crap. Very poor value and service. Only if you wanted to go to every event might you see the appeal. I hear the rooms are not ageing well. For high end property they need to up their game to compete with hard rock

this tripadvisor review shows everything that is wrong with (large parts of) ibiza today and illustrates nicely some interviews carl cox gave in the last few months ..

I've never been to Ibiza (leaving in 2 sleeps) but by absolutely no means whatsoever is Spain a "developing country." What an absolute idiot.

At least on the Tower side of the hotel, the rooms seem to be holding up well. Still, I agree that much of the hotel doesn't seem like a high-end property, from basic tile floors to clean but well-worn bedsheets. And the front desk is often understaffed for what I'd expect at a premium service hotel or resort.

But perhaps they don't have to up their game if they're getting enough people showing up for the right (for them) reasons. After my first stay there, it's the only place I want to stay for my next visit. But then, I'm going to Ibiza almost exclusively for the club / party scene and no place is more convenient than Ushuaia for that. I get quick-and-easy entry to the parties there, and when they end at midnight I can dash upstairs for a quick change, grab a quick bite on the nearby strip, and be on my way to Amnesia or another club before 1am.

It really lets me make the most of my week there -- it'd be tough to do two parties a day like that saying most other places on the island. And in the end, zero regrets about staying there.

Are the pools heated at least? Like I've been to 3 hotels and none of the pools were heated that well. Sucks to hear that by even paying through your nose for Ushuaia you still can't get a proper hotel with good service and accommodations, but I would think the pool is heated

I don't think the pool at the tower is heated. Was there this year at the end of june and once in july and the pool was really fresh. Not to complain, but not heated :)

1st October confirmed then...
