Travelling The World

if i can add my 2 dinars' worth. the third world is only for visiting if you're earning wads of dosh, no way would you pay to visit it.

Also, I think the more you travel, the less you think you've seen.

Thats how I feel anyway, I mope around saying "I wish i'd traveled more yesterday", when really i've done a fair amount. Was talking to someone at work yesterday who said he'd traveled a LOT, when all he had ever been is Mexico and Hawaii.... which are probably the two most common holiday destinations people go on from here.

I know, when I went travelling my best friend was thinking about coming out for a week and seeing me, I suggested to her Thailand as it's the most tourist friendly place... to which she replied "oh no, I've done Thailand, I dont want to do it again"

(She'd spent one week on Ko Samui in a five star resort a couple of years ago). I didn't even bother to respond

That's understandable though... yes, obviously there are regional and local differences within a country as well as different ways of experiencing a place, but it's not illogical to want to mix it up a bit.

Example - I've been to Rome but not Venice and even though I really want to visit that city it's not high on my agenda as I've been to Italy and not to quite a few other countries in Europe.

lol no I totally understand your point, you can't always see ALL of a country in one holiday. It was just the words she used that annoyed me "I've DONE Thailand"... it's like me saying I've DONE Spain whereas I've only ever been to Ibiza (oh and Magaluf ). I'm sure there's a whole other world of Espana that I've never seen or even heard about!

Not really... we're still novices compared to some of the crusties out there :)

And I haven't as yet had any dreadlocks put in ;)

I actually like meeting new people myself and that's another thing about travelling that would appeal not seeing new places but meeting people from all over, and from all walks of life, jaysus as i look out the window in work here and it's dull and miserable and raining, im thinking there's got to be more than this.

Project Jonny world travel begins here, someway, somehow:twisted:;)

yeah but some of them are past the point of no return - they literally don't have anywhere to go back to! One of the best things about travelling anywhere is going home and sharing your experiences.

Oh yeah I agree, it was quite sad actually, we met a girl travelling, she was only 21, she'd been travelling ever since she was 18, apparantly her parents broke up and she just wanted to get away, so went travelling for three years! She wanted to go back to the UK but apparantly her mum had moved abroad, her dad was with someone new, her sister was married with kids, so she basically had nothing to come back to. Very sad!

We're being semi-sensible and buying a place before we go again so we at least have a home to come back to.

I find a lot of my friends don't care at all. They ask about my trip or what was it like living here or there...but when i answer them or talk about it for more than 3 seconds, their eyes just glaze over and they don't care.

Aldous Huxley once said To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries :).

And sometimes you fall in love with a country so bad when travelling, that it makes you move out your home country. Thats what im doing this year 8)
