There's a huge tomato throwing festival in Valencia every year (La Tomatina). Actually it's nearby in Buñol.

The one in Ibiza is a light hearted Romans vs Carthaginians battle re-enactment. You can read about it here :

I love la tomatina! For some reason I thought only Valencia celebrated!

Wasting hundreds kilos of tomatoes while people can't , actually even in Spain, afford a single kilo of it, makes me sad...

Pretty sure they use damaged surplus in Valencia that cannot pass qc for supplies.

Exactly. The various tonnes of tomatoes that are donated by the local cooperativa aren't good enough to sell so would end up in the bin anyway.
