THE STRIP - YOUR HONEST OPINION

Chose love the strip completely and totally on how amazing Mambo is. Rest is not too great. Much rather go to Kasbah or Coastline than CDM, Savannah or Sugar Sea.

i went for the first time this year and i was more than impressed. mambos was packed and when pete tong played it was execellent. nice sitting and chilling when people are playing with fire etc and your being entertained

we ate at coastline during sunset and it was lovely, food was good, service and also price was cheaper than we expected. wasn't keen on kanyas as it was full of 'beer boys' as you like to put it.

kumharas was ok but i agree with some comments about the service we waited 20 minutes at the bar to get a drink. can't comment about the food.

i can't understand why people like to slag these places off constantly. if its not your thing there are plenty of ther places to go. unfortunately i think some of these places have to lax who they let drink in their establishments to make money. i didn't have any complaints but obviously can't comment on whats its like in august.

I partially agree. I´ve gone 6 times and maybe its just because - as stated in the first post - im getting bored of it now. I still feel it has a GREAT atmosphere tho, and if the service + food was still good, I´d be loving it as always, but now things are seriously going downhill. they rely much on reputation and not on maintaining their former higher standards.....

also: I think I prefer getting served by real spanish peeps who know thier food and the style of thier cuisine. we got served by some english girl, she was nice and everything but at Mambo´s I ordered a pear/parmasan salad and recieved a bunch of weirdlooking salad, 1 pear and NO parmasan whcih made me take my plate and go straight into the kitchen and say "are u kidding me" 10 euros for THIS?? And had the Tunasteak instead.....

Seriosly: it´s gone downhill, but I still ove to watch the sunset there!

Hm, was in Ibiza for first time last year... was clubbing all the time, so I could not go there.

This year I´ll surely go there... Any Tips, where to go and where not (for Diner and sunset)????

Thx.

its fantastic for first timers so no matter where u go, you´ll like it. I prefer Savannah - better prices and the food´s all the same really. But Mambo has more varieties of food, at savannah its pasta chicked or nachos really.
all the 3 places at the strip clap when the sun descends and they play good music so pick your choise!
you cant eat at CDM!

IG,
Most of the tourist on the island, like you, don't speak spanish, and I'm sure that you don't get a summer job if you don't speak english. If I run a bar in a touristic resort I would go for someone who speaks my clients' language
And about the food I haven't eat there but I'm not sure a pear/parmasan salad is typical spanish ;)

hahaha yeah u got a point! I agree, and some - not ALL - spanish peeps dont speak that much english so I know what you´re getting at. I just think it´s a bit sad....

You Know if is the same that in Mallorca people that knows to speack in english, german or french dont want to work as a waiter, they prefer to work in the tourist market but in other places like rent a car, hotel, souvenir shops , airport, tourist companys in general. Working as a waiter in the touristic places is really hard, lots of people, lots of hours, sometimes tourist treat waiters very bad even so you do you work correctly. I suposse that happens everywhere. Is not the same working as a waiter in the rest of Mallorca, I mean places not so touristic. I know this because i know people that say so. I remember once that I went to Cala D'or a place very touristic and I went to a bar owned by spanish friend of my friend, the waiter spoke to us in english and my friend told him we was spanish in spanish, he couldnt understand, incredible!!!, we asked the owner and he answered with a question,do you know a spanish guy who knows english,german... that wants to work here, so you ither have a foreigner(That knows english because his english, a german...) or a spanish who does not know english...

I agree about the bars being overrated, but the sunset is well worth watching. I always ignore Sugarsea because they are too pushy - if anyone tries to drag me into their bar I will usually make a point of not going. Likewise the brown one beside Mambo, trance is not what you want to hear at Sunset. Had a drink in Cafe Del Mar on my first ever night in Ibiza and have never been back, the music is a bit dull and the bar very tacky IMO. Savannah was alwas one of my favourite places and it's still great for a jug of sangria and one meal but the menu this year is so limited you can't go back again and again like you used to, plus they have some pretty dodgy pre-parties. Which leaves Mambo, where the music is always excellent but they won't let you sit at a table with your shirt off - which leaves sitting on the rocks with a bottle of €3 wine and a litre of San Miguel, listening to the music Mambo are kind enough to provide, watching the beautiful sunset and taking in the atmosphere, the calm before the storm, then the dung beetle drops the sun into the sea and the party starts. Unbeatable

Hhhmmm, I'm not really sure which way to go here.

I've been going to Ibiza for 9 years now and when I first went Cafe Del Mar and Mambo (which were the only bars there), weren't anywhere near as busy as they are now, the beach is so overcrowded and you usually have to turn up really early to get a seat anywhere for food.

In Mambo the food has always been quite nice, but probably as the place has got busier, things have gone downhill a bit.

I've had some lovely meals in Savannah, but that has gone downhill in recent years as well, probably due to everything being rushed. Although the service is much more friendly in savannah than it is in Mambo. But then again friendly service isn't something I expect most places in Ibiza, some places have, but Spanish aren't like us and they tend not to like us Brits, so you've just got to get on with it, although if you put yourself out, 9 times out of 10 they will as well. But there's a lot of what I call "Ibiza Head" going on there, which explains some of it.

To be honest, its not so much the fact that its really busy, or the bar prices, or the non-friendly service or even the food that I'm worried about, its the general lack of respect A LOT of holidaymakers have for the place, it absolutely stinks down on them rocks come the end of the summer. Now if people didn't poor there beer there, leave bottles there, leave fag ends there, p!ss there, be sick there etc etc, the place would be respectable, but I don't want to be surrounded by those sorts of people, people who obviously don't have respect for the place or themselves, so 2002 was the last year I went there.

Thats about all I want to say on it really  ;)

Have to agree with you there.

We went down last year having had a lovely evening by Cafe Del Mar in 2002 and were so disappointed.

We were sat outside Mambo on a Friday, so Pete Tong was on and it was mobed, mainly with drunken Brits who didn't seem to know how to behave. The sand absolutely stank of sick, so then everything else did as well. Litter is a real hate of mine and I was shocked at how people just left their empties lying about the place. Do they want it to look like a rubbish dump? Despite the sunset being lovely, these factors just ruined it.

I think this the real problem with it.

Spot on Clara.

To be brutally honest, and I'll probably get slated for saying this, I think the general standard of people who go clubbing has dropped dramatically. Its all down to the highly boring subject of commercialism mainly and the sort of people events like Pete Tong at Mambo now attract.

It's sad but I've seen it happen with my own eyes.

I tend to go to Ray de Copas (sp?) next to Mambo if I am at the strip.

Its not so busy as the other venues which makes it a little easier to get a seat/table. The music and atmosphere is equally as good as anywhere else. The food is nice and the service ain't bad either.

It also feels more authentic than the others IMO.

I also like Kashba and Kumharas.

The food in Mambo and Savannah has gone right down hill. 6/7 years ago it's was the only place I would eat, excellent food, good price and great service. Now it's shit and you can waste a whole night waiting to get served!

Cade Del Mar, to me is still what Ibiza is all about. Lot's of people still dont get it. There is nothing wrong with clapping at a good sunset (although some people have clapped even when it's coudy which can be a bit annoying!)

Coastline, food is good. Kasbah is the best, although got very popular the last couple of years and no longer the little secret it was.

Looking forward to staying above coastline this year, so can comment on the evening shennanigans on my return! :D

"Cafe del Mar was born to put music to the sunset"

Remember this fact and you wont be dissapointed. There is something for everyone at sunset and all are different. It takes different strokes to rule the world..................yes it does.

Watch out September

Its interesting you should say that mate, cause the clap at sunset was never about whether it was a good sunset or not, it used to be for whichever DJ (only Mambo and Cafe Del Mar at the time) ended the ambient track right at the sunset, or was closest, there was nothing like it, that feeling you got when the track just jingled out (or whatever that particular track did) and the sun dissapeared, aahhh memories. ;)
