The Judge has budged from Radio 1

Beat me too it

He is known to his thousands of listeners as the "Judge", but BBC Radio 1's Judge Jules is swapping his record box for a new career as a lawyer.

The end of Judgement Sundays?

A revamped schedule, which will see the arrival of five new specialist music DJs - Skream & Benga, Toddla T, Charlie Sloth and Friction – as well as the creation of a new show, BBC Radio 1 Residency, will launch in April next year.

Interesting new line up.

Never thought of the judge as the best of DJs but he has always had a good following on his show of house and trance fans.
Listening to it quite often as it was always good for new music.

As Trance is on the downfall in popularity though it was always going to happen and not surprised at all its D'n'B style djs that have taken his slot.

Radio 1's an embarrassment during the day and into the evening. It's a shame because there are some genuinely great presenters stuck on in the wee hours: Gilles Peterson, Benji B (a new discovery for me) and Rob Da Bank. They should all jump ship to 6 Music. There's nothing more horribly jarring than Benji B stopping and 'early breakfast' starting.

I have emailed Ben Collins, The controller for Radio 1 on what his plans are for Radio 1 in Ibiza this year...

Good Morning Ben

Can I ask what the plans are with Radio 1 in Ibiza this year. For most listeners and party goers on the island this is a key event people plan for. With the news of yet more dance music DJ's being ditched for fire alarms (Dupstep) Will the event in Ibiza turn into a more Magaluf/Dubstepy event rather than the quality house/trance night it has been for years? I feel that over the last 2 years the event has declined in popularity among the Ibiza community and is now targeted at the “first time abroad 16/17 year olds” If you ever run market research or panels into these events I would be more than happy to give my ideas and views across. I feel it's only a matter of time before Mark Wright I think he's called from that Essex programme or someone similar decides to take up DJ'ing and would appear on your stage.

Regards

Might have been better to have written 'next year' or 2012 in your note to Ben.

Yesterday, it was announced that I will be leaving Radio 1 in April 2012. After that point, I will be starting as an entertainment lawyer with leading London firm Sheridans, plus continuing to DJ in both clubs, festivals and Ibiza. Just keeping you posted....

I have to admit I've not listened to Radio1 for ages either.
Not properly since they did the silly dance friday / urban saturday split.

Loved Seb Fontaine when he was on.
