Take the alcohol test

My local last night had a Half Price Champagne night
Sampled a couple of Laurent Perrier Rose - bloody lovely! Well worth going over my recommended weekly limit!

Who makes these rules anyway? Put there to make us feel guilty for enjoying a drink after working hard all day/week.

As adults we should know when we've had enough and should know when our bodies need a break from drinking.

Also my glass of wine does not harm the person sat next to me unlike some other habits!

Another interesting point.

People have been overindulging for years, centuries even but it's only now you read about the health scares.

Has anyone else noticed? Everytime you open a newspaper/magazine it's cancer this, heart disease that

I think over the years people have got more and more obsessed with the 'want to live forever' feeling *cue a bit of Freddie Mercury*.

In history people got on with their lives and did not give so much consideration to health and there wasn't the research to show what you can do to live for a few more years.

A book I once read said 'once we realise life doesn't end on earth people will no longer be scared of dying'. All very dependent on your beliefs, but I do think if people thought in this way there wouldn't be all the finger pointing and 'oooo don't drink/eat/smoke/take/do that' as the 'rush' isn't on to squeeze a few more years in.

This thread has really made me think.

Ok, if I stick to all these guidelines etc I may live for a few more years. Think I'd rather take my chance, do what I want to do and live the life I personally choose.

Whats a few more years when your very old and weak anyone? :?

Fair point. I've aspired to the same philosophy myself, but recently i've started worring about the abuse i've inflicted over the years. Fair enough, i've worked out 3/4+ times a week since i was 18 and have always followed an excellent diet but that doesn't cancel out the bad stuff.

I don't think it's a question of losing a few years in your old age from good living. Alcohol/drug abuse can have major health implications much younger than you think.

Not trying to scaremonger, just wanted to get a feel for how others feel about this subject.

I think it's fair to say just be sensible and respect your body as much as is practical. At the end of the day "your body is a temple"

I am with you Andrew, with the highlighted area specifically.

At the end of the day, if the medics did not continue to research and name illnesses and give them treatments they would out of a job ;)

Drew,

I agree to, caning it so much at a young age must have serious health implications. Like you though, I keep myself fit and eat well. I've stopped smoking full time since I came back from Ibiza, managing to just limit it to nights out again like I used to.

Granted, still do alot of bad things to mu body :? , but I honestly know I won't be this bad for ever. Looking for another job just now, and I believe that would restrict some of my social life  ;)

Angie,

Agree to. Imagine we did everything the medical experts told us to. Would never really drink, smoke anything, etc etc etc!! ;)

Very, very precious TBH! Lost my older brother to a heart attack four years ago! My younger sister has had a mild heart attack too and she still refuses to stop smoking. Although, I've been into reasonable health & fitness for over twenty five years and chucked smoking in 1992. :D

I can honestly say I've been clubbing for OVER 35 years 8O and still can't get enough! Don't smoke or do drugs, although I did experiment when I was a lot younger. :D Might end up like that guy in Pacha living it large and become world famous! 8O

I got 69 for the past week

To be fair, I had a lot of meetings while in London, some over drinks. Plus two football games with the requesite pre- and post-game revelry. :?

I just entered an average week's consumption and got a score of 44 8)

I only got 8 last week and that was 2 glasses friday night and possibly 6 on Saturday night.

I dont really drink in the week unless ive had a bad day and i never drink on my own, dont see the point :?

When i go out though i'll probably have about 2.5 - 3 bottles of wine to myself and possibly a few vodka's, i suppose thats binge drinking :?

I usually have a couple of beers with dinner.... the missus is usually home so I suppose that doesn't count as drinking alone :?
