Awful news, looked at the headline and just knew, mentions his name which I think is a bit sh1t in a national paper but... Can only say RIP. 8 people to die in one season doesnt look good.

A BRITISH holiday maker collapsed and died after taking four ecstasy tablets in Ibiza early yesterday.
Kieran Formby, 20, is the eighth person to die after taking the drug on the Spanish island this year.
Cops in Playa d'en Bossa said "Friends found him slumped in their flat"

Hmm now lets see is that the eigth person to die on the island or the 8th person to die from using E. Did the e kill him or lack of knowing how to deal with them due to prohibition or a load of other things? I don't think we'll ever find out. Sad for Keiran but we don't know the truth from this article. Was anything else involved? Im not saying e is lovely and safe, its best avoided (no matter how lovely). 4 pills is more than is needed, but if he's taken 4, then other things may be involved, was he also doing coke, g, viagra or poppers (even a pork pie by that particular rag's journalistic standards) or the whole lot which would put an elephant at risk but is not unheard of, just ask the staff at Can Misses hospital.

In case you don't know V and poppers is a no no, causes you to crash. Besides what else have you had to get you in a situation where the two come together!!?

Coke - A one way ticket to do all those things and see all of thsoe places that you're going to regret in the morning. Plus its very bad value for money. Its like driving a car with hands tied behind your back.

e- if you have to, and you may have a great time then you'll forget it all in the haze and feel lousy and brain addled for 3 days.

g - you associate with criminals.

Nothing is safe.

Thoughts with the guys family, as mentioned above, half a story as usual in these cases.

The new system has been developed by a team led by Professor David Nutt, from the University of Bristol, and Professor Colin Blakemore, chief executive of the Medical Research Council.

It assesses drugs on the harm they do to the individual, to society and whether or not they induce dependence.

A panel of experts were asked to rate 20 different drugs on nine individual categories, which were combined to produce an overall estimate of harm. In order to provide familiar benchmarks, five legal drugs, including tobacco and alcohol were included in the assessment. Alcohol was rated the fifth most dangerous substance, and tobacco ninth.

The programme relating to this study was shown earlier this year I believe.....

Was quite interesting in some respects to see where certain drugs allegedly lay in this experiment.

All depends on the individual - that's my opinion. Some people cope differently - mentally and physically.

I am not quite sure who these experts would be but I do not think stats like this should be promoted. I can totally see why alcohol and tabacco would come high up as sooo many more peope use them than other drugs as they are legal and both lead to a number of illnesses and deaths but to see E towards the bottom would make me think oh it's relatively safe in comparison but I always thought the big problem with E is, unlike a substance used in medicine such as amphetamine or a natural product like tabacco, you do not know how it has been made, what quantities of what are in it etc and that is probably why people like this poor guy who died can take 4 pills on a "normal" night out from their regular dealer and then go on holiday and buy something called E but that is totally different and it's a real gamble. As Puppylover said, I think it totally depends on the person as well.

of course stats like that should be promoted

drug laws in this country are draconian and out of date and cause more harm than good

but it will never change so this argument is totally futile

re: the thread, that sucks big time, but people also pop it doing other things

Again our thoughts go to the family of the deceased. I think 8 may be understating the total number of casualties. When I was there last month (start of) there was a kid that died in Es Paradis (collapsed and later died I assume) and the cocktail blamed was the combination of Special K and Red Bull.
It was reported in the local press at the time that was the 8th person to have died for drug related reasons.
FWIW I find Red Bull a complete non no if one is taking and other chemicals

The end of ibiza as we know it is inevitable , no one asked the boy to take drugs but the authorities will be loving the stories

We heard whilst over there that someone from Ibiza Rocks hotel had to much Ket and had their stomach pumped but unfortunatly died.......I have to say this year, I didnt get asked as much as last season and it didnt seem as obvious on the dealing front? Noticed more people taking MDMA

Each time we hear of an E related death there are lots of defensive voices about the use of E. I understand that, but the bottom line is, all drug use has a danger and we have to accept that. No one should die because they wanted to party and have a good time, but it happens. However, thoughts must go to the guys family who will be hurting and confused and asking why?

The statistic chart is very good, but should only be used as a guide, not as a safety net to run out and munch 10 E's..

Do not take any recreational drug until you have spoken with someone who knows the good and bad side of each drug, when to use them and their limitations/dangers. Do not encourage people to take drugs and that includes alcohol. Use the drug, dont let the drug use you.. Next time you watch "Only Fools and Horses" think of Ketemine.

If you want to be really safe dont do anything... I'm not a saint though and niether are most party people.

.
That's the sad bit, at the end of the day theres not much dignity really in a death from E and it's sad for his parents having to deal with the stigma that comes with it and being the parents whose son died taking drugs, its such a shame.

Kieran Formby - The Actual Truth - by His Father

I just thought I would let you all know that Kieran Formby aged 20 did not die from drugs as mis-reported by the national press. I am Kieran's dad and I have dealt with both the coroner's in Ibiza and in the UK.

The coroner in Ibiza stated that Kieran died from and un-diagniosed heart condition and stated it was a pulmonary haemorrhage which is akin to a Heart Attack, there was no mention of drugs or of the cause of death being realted to drugs.

The UK coroner spent much more time examining all the causes over nearly a month and diagniosed Kierans death as from natural causes. He officially died from a Cardiac Hypertrophy, which is an acute cardiac failure (ie: his death was sudden).Again there is no indication that his death was caused by taking drugs.

It is a pity that newspapers etc run stories based on nothing but hearsay. Kieran was not found in a street, night club or anything like that. He was in a friends apartment with friends and was in bed at the time.

The newspapers wanted a story and made a lot of the facts up and were so factual about the cause of death despite the fact that it took the Coroner over 4 weeks to establish the cause of death.

Tragic story. However I bet the papers won't print this version or if they do it will only be small column.

Anyway a life is lost. Fact. RIP.

If the unimaginable agony of losing a sibling is not hard enough to bear, the gutter press and their actions are beyond words. How the journalists sleep at night I will never know.

Being a father myself, I cannot begin to imagine the pain you are feeling, I hope the news you post here has at least brought you a tiny bit of peace.

Same as. Look at that story now in the papers about that baby being tortured by the mum, lover and lodger. Made my stomach turn reading that. Sick.

My sincere condolences. I have friends that had a similar newspaper experience, Their son fell of a balcony after taking 8 pil`s in a different part of the Med,
Turned out he was sleep-walking.

Again my sincere condolences, Thanks for letting us know.

Tim

Yet again the press do their thing and sensationalise (sp!) what is a tragic and sad story, as well as utterly devastating for your family.

Thank you for informing us and so very sorry to hear of your loss. A friend of mine died of the same thing right after a New Year's Eve celebration and drugs were blamed initially, even though he wasn't a user, even casual. Gossip and heresay are just so damaging ...

so very sorry to hear that on top of your loss, you had to suffer keiran's name and memory being questioned and probed and blackened by the gutter press scum.:cry:
