allow about two hours to walk up it on the road. do not attempt the footpath route which starts behind the jardines de palerm hotel unless you are an experienced walker and have the right equipment.

oddly enough i've seen and heard podencos out hunting rabbits when i've been on my morning patrol of the foothills with marli. several of my neighbours have giant packs of these animals in pens and take them out hunting all stuffed into the back of renault 4s!

wasn't aware people kept them as pets.

are they wild around that area as well??

i know lots of people who have them as pets (ironically mrs peter the butcher has champion prize winning podencos which were bred in britain and then brought here)
princess letizia was given a puppy podenco when the royal couple visited last year.

the dogs don't really run wild in the countryside - as i say most are kept in pens - but there is a big group of them which live by the side of the road on the way to es cubells ( or somewhere that way - my sense of direction is hopeless)

yeah it is near es cubells or somewhere in that direction, think we came across them taking the scenic route back to eivissa from cala d'hort.:D my idea that they were totally wild was based on seeing many of them by the road side there.:?

the dogs there were really scruffy/dirty/scraggy, not much of a dog person but i'm guessing the pets are in better condition.

thats the route we did that day!! 8)

(btw, i have been told that you can spot can ste from up there? )

the first time i went up sa talaiassa, i got lost trying to find it and took a left just before the roundabout before near the hill as you are heading out of sant josep.

i knew i'd taken the wrong route when all of a sudden everything went off road and i ended up in someones back yard bbq8O .

does that roundabout have a name??

actually, i think i know where you went wrong because as you're driving down the road there's a confusing sign on the left which is a bit like

Sa Talaia
not this way.

in fact much the same as another one that i followed once to cala jondal which led down a 'road' more suited to goats and andean explorers than my ford fiesta.

beware signposts in ibiza

it's so beautiful up there....

just fear the day they are bringing busses to the top and setting up a kiosk.

For every visitor a long lasting impression to be standing "on top of the island", and take an extra film/batteries for the camera...and try to walk up there :)
