Spanish air traffic controllers threaten strike

They got me worried for a while. For a while I was considering if I should cancel my flight and drive to the Island with my motorcycle. Would've been about 300 euros more expensive than the flights.

That's you sorted - doesn't say for certain if or when this is going to happen!

I know, I felt a bit bad afterwards, but at least I can start getting excited again for my holiday...hopefully it won't happen at all anyway.

I have to admit though, I wouldn't be averse to being stuck in Ibiza for a few extra days if they delay it to the following week

Phew what a relief. Now the next question is do I pay £60[1] for parking at Stanstead or £25 for a bus.

[1] it's actually £9.50 / day on the gate. BAA are con-merchants they won't allow off airport operators

General strike is still on.

Easyjet will be cancelling many of their flights on wednesday 29th.

We've had to change our flights to tuesday just to be sure.

Everyone due to fly on the 29th beware!!

I am doing great in Ibiza right now and my flight leaves the 30th. There have been a few roumors here and there from people I would call instigators about Spain striking but the locals say that it will be the taxi drivers and not airtraffic.

France is almost at a standstill. My friend is a pilot for Span air and I have sent him a message. He is supposed to fly in tommorow and fly out on the 30th as well. If airtraffic were planning a strike here in Spain I highly doubt he would be risking being stranded. I will do my best to post what his response is to the strike ASAP.

Okay my pilot friend says that there will be a strike in Spain beginning on the 29th. It will only be ground workers. The flights will get through and airtraffic will be controled but there will be no luggage handlers. So your flights will get through but your checked bags will not. Best bet is to pack light with a carry on or if need be ship your luggage. Not the news I wanted to hear. Will speak more directly with Him tommorow and get back. Good luck:(

thing is, if easyjet (or any airline) know there's no baggage handlers in Ibiza will they just accept hand luggage passengers or will they cancel flights?

They cant just leave for ibiza and hope for the best surely

To be honest i wouldnt even mind if they let all the passengers get their own suitcases from the airplanes hold

Thanks for information Don Pelayo

Is there any info I can find out about this as I fly out to Ibiza on Weds 29th and the talk on here of not being able to take luggage is worrying me a bit?

Who are you flying with?

Most airlines are offering a free transfer to the day before or after. Best option is to check with your airline company. Easyjet sent us an email saying our flight was ok for now, but it could be cancelled later so we decided to go a day earlier.

There's plenty of rooms in hotels, saw a few for a bit over £30 per night for the tuesday shared between two its not too expensive.

I'm flying with Thomson, Just got hold of someone and they said everything is running as normal so far with thomson, but did request that I contact them a day before my flight to get an update.
They did state they wouldn't be contacting me if there was a change, that its down to me to contact them to find out wtf?

I'm travelling to gatwick the day before my flight and need to know before then if I can take luggage or not, after all I have paid to take it and a small hand luggage allowance bag just wouldn't be suitable for me for a week away:(

Fingers crossed it all goes ok:)

If anyone is flying with Thomson on the 29th to Ibiza and you find out what's happening can you post it here and likewise I'll do the same;)

If your flying with Monarch on the 29th they are also keeping quiet!

So looks as though Ryanair and Easyjet have been decent enough to notify their passengers ahead of the event so to allow them to make any alterations to flights:roll:

thomsons were still letting you book as of today.ok only 1 seat left from ema.cannot see them stopping your luggage.it would mean not letting those in ibiza bring there luggage back.plus tui as a bit more power than low cost flights.will see what happens.

My friend says 95% of the flights will be up and running with minimal delays. However there will be no baggage handling. Taxis, buses and ferries will not be operating.
