I'll provide the coda to my own thread.
Tonight was my first at Eden. It's not an imposing structure, if you pass by on the bay, but was more cavernous than I expected. Something about the collection of buildings, with Es Paradis next door, and the Slingshot overhanging and ever present, it seemed like what I imagined a carnival ride would be on a bright summer day.
Eden offers the same attractions, but being a Space-themed night, it's not a house of mirrors. The idea of "Space" is looking for a home, and Eden offers a generous welcome. It hasn't quite found its footing yet, but this is probably more appropriate for this moment in time. Having been to the original Space, where Hi now resides, the "mystery" of navigating the rooms feels similar. Eden's floor plan is kind of confusing when you look at it, but I appreciated the adventure!
With Guy J, Sasha and John Digweed headlining the night, it was in the right hands. Even more appropriate, Pepe Roselle made their introduction. It felt impassioned. The "idea of Space" was clear. This commentary came for the obvious, however... It's not "Space", it's obviously not the same building, there is no terrace, and there is no weird tube thing on the roof. I'm not sure if there is an outdoor area? It won't be opening at 7am. Far better people than myself can elucidate on those points. But the idea is there.
Everyone performed wonderfully. John Digweed's label is called "Bedrock", but I don't know if he even knew how that term would come to pass. He's the concrete foundation that holds everything together. I love Sasha's whimsy and fantastical hedonism, it's THE embodiment of what I consider the sound of Ibiza, but I really appreciate how they compliment each other.
So, what is the "idea of Space"? My definition will be different from everyone else's. What I have understood more than anything else, is that it's a home. A place where people feel comfortable, feel together, and identify more strongly than anywhere else in the world. That drive still exists. This isn't quite there yet, but the foundation is. And so is the dream of Space at Ibiza.
