Shoreditch (Tw*ts)

Naah it's great - you just have to know where to go.

If you frequent places in Hoxton Sq on a Friday night then you'll find the place is awash with loads of jumped up tw*ts wearing bowler hats at jaunty angles etc...basically like the ones you describe.
I was in Zigfrid last Friday and it was almost like leicester sq with silly clothes and lots of attitude.
(still better than soho tho ;) :p)

But please don't let this put you off - the 'Shoreditch tw*t' slogan comes from a freebie mag that was given out in about 96 so it's not a new phenomenon.

Shoreditch still rocks - Bethnal Green/Shoreditch has a higher concentration of artists living in it than anywhere else in Europe. Sundays in Shoreditch rock (esp the old blue last/George & Dragon/Trailer Trash)! I've never found a place to be so accessible and friendly than this - it's like a house party type affair with friends - and there's a complete absense of Burton styleey clothes and men in clubs wearing suits .

I've also had enough od minimal now...and thankfully the above no longer play it. Phew.

Oh and buy buy buy because housing prices will rocket over the next few years! :D

Errr yeah back to the point chaps!!!!

Well I suppose the internal debate I am having is where else in London is there that i would enjoy living in more?....Like London Bridge but a little low key, like parts of West London but v.expensive and places like S.Ken which I dont mind once in a while would get on my tits as if I had to go out there all the time...

I suppose if I move there my aim would be to actually meet local people who are fun, friendly and actually make new friends in my area but guess Im just a little wary of living there and finding out that everyones head is a little too far up there own ass....got nothing against people being trendy or cool just with them being too self concious about it and looking down on people without a Hoxton Fin!

I cant quite explain it (which maybe why I am rambling!) but having lived in London all my life, but in relatively quiet suburbian area have always wanted to live in a place with a bit of a community and so guess that is why it is quite important to me, particularly given that I love the music policy of the Shoreditch clubs

(PS what are they playing if not minimal?)

Having said that the reason i got put of Ldn Bridge is that most of the plces we saw were new builds full of city professionals (even though I am one), which is quite bland

lack, my lad

have you thought of somewhere like camden and its salubirous environs?

not so many twats in this neck of the woods. and there is a pretty cool community thing as well.

I think Shoreditch is a great place to live...there is a lovely community feel.
Lots of areas tucked away with families and yummy mummy types.

Not everyone is a clubber and a fashion ironist! 8O

...& btw I used to live in London Bridge and whilst walking to the river, Borough market, tate modern and city of London (beautiful and quiet at weekends) are definate pluses - the tourist novelty did wear off after a while.

You only meet commuters there - I'm so much happier where I am now. Particularly as I've got London's biggest Buddhist Centre, the canal, victoria park, two yoga centres, an art gallery, a local market and an organic food shop ALL on my road. 8O 8)

Hmmm....not sure about Camden. Bit more live music which is not really myy thing plus a bit to familiar

We had our offer accepted for the place in Shoreditch plus with all Robders enthusiam for the area reckon will stick to it. Quite excited now so will see what happens. Need to find a solicitor asap though

Wheres this Budhism centre btw?

Cheers

Don't listen to me mate - everyone on this board knows that when I get something in my head I get really blinkered about everything else. ;)

I don't think you'll regret this one though - the area has so much going for it.

Went to the local cinema the other day - it rocks...and you can't beat a lazy Sunday on brick lane. 8)

Feel free to pm me for any info on stuff.

Cheers mate. The place we are looking at is more towards old street side of things but hear good things about brick lane as well.

I used to live near Shoreditch Church and it was great being able to pop out and have everything on your doorstep (well apart from anything sensible like a supermarket :? ).

I live in a nice quiet green bit of south London now and I really like it but I definitely miss being that central.

why would you need to buy food when you are able to purchase pillz and koke etc from the man next door?

Yeah Im kind of doing the opposite...moving from a nice green part of North London to more central.....

I Lived near Angel for a year or so when at uni but wouldnt want to live near there again, found it so bland apart from having turnmills, fabric and my fav late night eaterie Tinsletown on my doorstep
