SHM back!?!?

Think this Carl Cox quote sums up acts like SHM quiet well!! My entry to dance music was the more commercial stuff and without that I assume a lot of people wouldn't have found the music they love today so there is a place for it. As mentioned above I look back now and think what on earth was I listening to but without it I may never have found the proper side of dance music

They remixed some, they put Axwell Ingrosso's 'Dream Bigger' in the middle of 'One' and the version of 'Dont you worry child' was new to me too. They also played some of their solo/duo material such as Angellos 'Remember'

They were between a rock and hard place with the setlist, if they didn't do the 'greatest hits' people would complain, but theyve also had complaints it was too similar to before they split up.

I liked it, but I understand the complaints about how commercial it all is and there was little to no actual mixing going on.
Like Guetta they did play house music in the early days.

can't understand the passion some here put in dissing/hating shm. a reunion with possibly more shm-gigs does not mean there will be more edm in ibiza. axwell/ingrosso always had their dates, they will have their ibiza dates - no matter whether there is a third guy jumping about on stage. adding angello only makes more money for the venue and shm.

i listened to shitloads of cheese at a time when I lived in a town with 2 radio stations and when the world wide web was this strange thing you logged into in the computer room along with a load of speccy nerds. this meant I knew every single record Tong played for about 4 years. However, it was never a gateway to the underground. I think peer pressure, narcs and growing up does that. You don't have to listen to a load of diarrhea to get to the promised land. in an era when there are tens of thousands of blogs, streams and podcasts to choose from, there's no excuse for settling for cheese. it suggests you're either lazy or just don't really care about music. horses/courses, to each their own etc etc but you really do have a choice if you want it...

I think you've conceded before that you're not a typical music fan, that you're rather niche with your obsession and near-encyclopaedic knowledge of some things. Therefore everyone else probably doesn't care about music as much as you, just by default. Your knowledge is more extensive, your tastes more thoughtfully selected, for sure, but that doesn't mean that the people who aren't taking it as far as you, especially 18 year olds just looking for music to have fun to, are doing it wrong. Just different.

I'm not preaching at anyone, just saying that there are other options if they want them. I think the dance music industry almost coerces people into thinking they have to follow these DJs because they're Gods and they're really not. in the distant past these was far less choice and we listened to the same stuff because you knew no different, but an 18 year old now probably has no idea how privileged they are.

Why can't one enjoy both?

Why can't one enjoy both?

well obv you can in theory...

but in practice?

i liken it to popping your cherry or first pill. there's no going back. the world changes overnight. or at least it did for me! anyway, like I said I'm not denying people the right to enjoy cheese. I certainly did! am just saying that the gateway argument cox put forward is very dated.

The reason it is very dated is that it’s not a new quotation from the big man.

I saw Axwell in the Fastrack queue for Nemesis at Alton Towers last year. He told me that he’d never forgive Steve after he lent him his Volvo one night and he wrapped it round a tree.

Well I am 32 and the first time I went to Ibiza I was 20. So it was 12 years ago (already ). I kept coming to Ibiza then every year sometimes twice a year. By the time I was super open minded. I was going on Monday to SHM in pacha and on Tuesday I was at Carl Cox party listening some good techno and drum and bass on the terrace. I was really enjoying to listen different music from a day to another one and as I remember people were super open minded. Now it’s true I’m more selective in what I listen. I’m more into deep and melodic music like the kind of tracks Innvervision releases for example. But I think it’s good for the music industry that they are back and yes it brings me back some really nice memories to listen their old tracks. I find always funny people complaining when they discovered Sven Väth 2 years ago, telling such djs just press one button. music producers knows that what is really difficult is make a track from scratch with mastering and to do a nice music selection as dj. But djing is super easy guys come on...

Yup, I also enjoy having diverse tastes. Would regularly go from Guetta in Ushuaia straight to Cocoon and would have a great time at both. It's important to be open minded but it's also cool if people don't enjoy like others do and have a different perspective.
