Bought some stuff and when i got home noticed that they'd charged me the full price (4.97) for a pack of batteries that was reduced to £2.50.

Now at this point i knew two things:

1. There were three more packs of the batteries on the shelf.
2. Tesco have a policy that if they overcharge you, you get all your money back and get to keep the product.

Went back and bought the other three packs, again charged full price. As soon as the transaction was complete I took the originally purchased pack and receipt from my bag and informed the checkout girl of her error. Supervisor came over and straight away knew what i was upto  Nothing he could do though, he was even more annoyed when i took 12p from my pocket and gave it to him so he could give me a £20 note.

Result: Tesco PAY ME £20 to give me Four packs of batteries :D

Sometimes the small wins/results are the most satisfying ;)

aye nice one. you think it was a local error or one that might be worth checking out in my local tesco?

local error, the girl didnt enter the discount, think she was newish and forgot!

They have this policy because under the trade descriptions act, if they charge you more than the diplayed price they are liable to prosecution and it is a £1,000 fine for EACH offence.

So if you bought 4 packs of batteries, then reported them to trading standards it could go to court and they would be liable for a fine of £4,000.

Hence the sweetener to stop you reporting them

(I worked or a national retailer for 6 years before I saw the light and moved on ;) )

I'm envious n8. You get to play one of 'The Grifters', you get 20 quid, you get to Tescos not once, but twice, and on a Sunday too, and you get 4 packs of batteries!

djB

ps What are you going to use the batteries for?

Newish and now unemployed-ish, having been told her probationary period had come to and end as a result?

Feeding the hunger of the monster in my cupboard - it's either multiple AA's or small children - and i think the staff at the school opposite me are getting suspicious.
