Probably been asked hundreds of times but where is THE best place for paella ??

NOT sa caleta as you will hear from plenty of people.

my faves are:

- maria lluisa (cala vadella, strong taste)
- can jaume (cala vadella as well, a little milder normally)
- el carmen (cala d'hort)
- can't remember the name, but the restaurant in es niu blau (north of santa eularia)

Restaurante 2000 in Benirras, Can Gat in Cala San Vicente for the North are my favourite.
Love the fish at Balansat (San Miguel) , but never tried the paella

crash course for paella newbies - how do you know whether you got a good one or not:

- the rice must still be firm to the bite, same as with pasta when it's al dente. if the rice is soft the paella is overcooked.
- there shouldn't be any liquid left (else it's an arroz meloso...which is also good, but it's not a goddamn paella in that case)
- a perfect paella is slightly burnt on the bottom (so that the very bottom is a bit brown an crispy). it's called 'socarrat' and that's really when the paella is cooked perfectly.

of course it's all a matter of taste but I believe most spanish would say yes to the above.

The Morrisons microwavable one i had last night probably didn't tick any of those boxes (i would however have it again)

It's the microwave donner kebabs which have really pushed our nation to the forefront of culinary greatness
