Restaurant news & reviews

Just stomped from Gran Sol to Nirvana Indian in the bay both starving, as taxis were non existent near Flahertys... hoping its worth the trek

Thanks to a recommendation on here a few weeks ago we went to Kaixo last night. Just behind McDonalds. Great selsection of tapas and good atmosphere. I’d say they are pretty big tapas though, we didn’t manage to finish 3 dishes between the 2 of us. Tempura tuna and broken eggs with ham and cheese were excellent. Other one was sausages and potatoes, they were pretty good too but could have done without them.

kaixo is pretty nice indeed.

one thing people need to be careful about is whether it says 'tapa' or 'ración' on the menu.

a tapa is really a SMALL plate of what you order, usually just enough so that 3-4 people have a bite of it.

a ración is a 'portion', so already a much bigger amount of the same thing. a lot of bars will give you the option to choose between both if you ask (and sometimes they even have prices for both on the menu clearly visible).

El Zaguan is our favourite. Great food. Top ups regularly brought round and reasonably priced.
Thank you for this recommendation , unfortunately taxi service tonight has cancelled our plans ! 2.5 hour wait at Cala d’hort this evening! I’ll add it to the list for next time !

So, here are my best restaurants of this trip.

Can Vicent per Pedro I Mari / Cala Carbo
I love my fish a la plancha. So I had a really tasty lubina, grilled just the right amount, still juicy with the taste of the grill on the fish skin, just how it is supposed to be. My obligatory pan y aioli is also spectacular there, pretty sure they add a squeeze of lemon to it. Bread was not white bread, which I not particularly like but okay. Service friendly (called my "capitan"), great view, sunset and the sea.

onthebay / Cala de bou
Don't be fooled by the stupid name or the looks of this restaurant. This really needs some nice decoration, and it isn't even listed as a restaurant on google maps. Probably because it belongs to the hotel behind it. BUT THE FOOD. Grilled fish again, and the pan y aioli a must. Freshly baked white bread and the aioli on the garlic side. Also very kind and funny waiter, so they should really do something to make the location more appealing.

Regina / Cala llonga
Stayed for a couple of nights in Cala Llonga this year, I like to move to a location nearer to Akasha around the Sven party :) It's really laid back and got a great choice of good restaurants. The Regina is quiet and stylish, directly next to the beach, great service with hierbas on the house at the end. I probably had the best paella in Ibiza ever there. It was a mixta, and the rice was the hero, it was soo tasty and perfectly cooked.

Altravia / Cala llonga
So this is a must for Italian food lovers. That night was nothing short of spectacular. A cosy, small and unassuming place, with just a few dishes, pasta and only 4 or 5 kinds of pizzas. Prices mostly between 15 and 20, and you think you know what you gonna get. But then... Focaccia with rosemary - completely fresh out of the oven, it almost floated in the air but was still crispy on the outside. Aioli with something green added to it, it melted on my tongue. And the superstar: The pappardelle al ragu.. we were blown away. Make this a to do next summer !

Genuinely no idea where this is, and I live there 😂

A google maps search did the trick and i know the place now. Walk past most days but never tried it. I will now off your recommendation

haha it's weird, yes. Stayed at Kiki so just tried it while passing by :)

Went to Jondal a few weeks ago…very nice indeed (although our bill was €1k for 4 of us and the only drink we had was a jug of sangria!). We had steak, lamp chops (sauce was unreal). I don’t eat fish but those that did had lobster and I think a crab pasta thing - they said it was excellent and took home the left overs (minging…fish a day later!). A few famous faces but our sangria was 100 then went next door to blue marlin where it was 45! I’d say that unless you are absolutely minted Jondal would be a one off treat.
