*** radio one weekend 2011 ***

So there's gona be no live broadcast or party at the ibiza rocks this year & there doing it all from space ? Sounds intresting and looks like they have got some good dj's lined up !

Amber-leaf - the tickets for the Radio 1 event at Space are free, you just turn up and cue, albeit for a very long time. The cue at Ibiza Rocks last year was one of the biggest cue's I've ever seen in my life. Practically went all the way down to Kanya! So my advice would be to get there early.

And if it's anything like last year at Ibiza Rocks, they will start letting people in from about 3ish and start their live broadcasts with Annies show at 8pm local time followed by Tongy's show.

The Radio 1 event is a lot like marmite, some hate it, some love it, but I think it's absolutely brilliant and well worth cueing up for. Yea you get a few chavs there but the atmosphere is amazing.

Oh and I may be wrong but I don't think they will be doing live broadcasts in the day either, or else Tongy would have mentioned something on Friday. I believe that they did it a few years ago because they were broadcasting from Ibiza for an entire week to celebrate Radio 1's 10th year in Ibiza.

I'm considering heading over just for this, fly out thursday day and head to Cream then hit up Space on the friday before flying back on the Saturday.

Does anyone think this could realistically be done with no plans to sleep / get accommodation?

S'ppose it depends entirely on your own stamina and how badly you cane it. Much Red Bull might help..

You'll most likely want a disco nap at some stage in the day so it's just a case of making sure you can do this somewhere safe. If you're not drinking etc you can do this with a car to hand easily & you can leave change of clothes, towel etc in the car.

If heavy drinking / no car, and given you'd be wanting to dance a whole lot, I'm assuming you wouldn't bother with anything other than passport, wallet and boarding pass home. If so, would probably not risk it alone around PDB - with a mate you can nap in shifts if needs be (if no towel/change of clothes find a beach with some rocks for eg.. no sand to get in everything). The watcher can make sure you don't get your passport and wallet nicked 8O (didn't you hear the looky lookys creeping up ?).

Will just be interesting how manky you get going in and out of clubs by the time the flight home comes around .. Es Cavallet beach showers and a couple of sachets of shower gel could come in handy, I guess .

On the party calendar it says you can buy tickets for 40 euro?

There are two events:

1) the free one that is broadcast live in the afternoon and runs from about 5 till midnight. This used be at mambo and more recently ibiza rocks hotel
2) the night event, which down the years has always typically been a cream/amnesia thing (privilege the last two years) but this year is with come together.

I think the free tickets will be done through radio 1, like a raffle and also you can queue up and wait to get in, probably.

The location for the first one hasn't been confirmed yet, it'll be at space or nearby!

Yea I'll have to hold my hands up here, I got it wrong. The Radio 1 event is free, you'll just cue for tickets on the day, first come first serve basis. The Radio 1 party will finish at midnight local time and then the come together party will carry on in Space for which you will need a ticket for at 40e a pop.

This has led me to think about something else though. Where do you think they will actually hold the Radio 1 party at Space. Do you think it will be in the car park as someone has already mentioned? I think it might be because for starters they can errect a big stage for all the live acts to perfrom on. Second, if they held it inside space in the Terrace or main room, how would they then get rid of all those people who didn't have tickets when the Radio 1 event finished leaving all the people with tickets in the club? They would have to clear the club and then let everyone in again who had tickets. That just sounds like it would be a logisical nightmare therefore has led me to believe that the Radio 1 party will be outside in the car park, then the come together event will continue inside space which you will then need your ticket for to get in.

Please feel free to comment if anyone has any other suggestions.

It's not a Come Together night is it? It's 7pm-7am Radio 1. Free entrance all night?

So whats the story with this, do you need to get a ticket for the main Radio 1 Event?
It looks like its free all evening? Come together is advertised on spotlight!

read what i wrote above.

the free event as has always happened on the friday on radio 1 weekend....takes place in the afternoon and evening. full details tbc.

the Come Together event is paying entry Radio 1 party (that historically has always taken place on Saturday).

This is from the Radio 1 website...

"From 7pm to 11pm (UK time), Annie Mac and Pete Tong will be coming live from a free Radio 1 event with some special guests, including Calvin Harris and Carl Cox.

Then from 11pm (UK time), Radio 1 will be joining the 'Space presents Come Together' event to bring you an extended Essential Mix. Please note that tickets for this part of the night are not free and will be sold through a third party"

what you'll prob notice is the free bit will be in the car park bit of space, they setup a big stage for the opening and closing parties.

and then you can get a ticket to head indoors at 11pm

Yea that's correct, Magnetic man said they were doing a gig in the car park of space on the 5th August so I assume that's for the free radio 1 event, you can then pay to enter into the come together part of the night after that :)

these days i go out of my way to avoid this weekend by a clear 2 and half weeks either side.

getting old.

why are radioi 1 taking so long to annouce exactly where the free event will be and how to be a part of it, they said they would be announcing more details in a few weeks about 2 months ago!

it also seems that maybe they have had issues as originally the website explicitly stated the free event was at space, the wording has sinced changed.

I find it hard to believe they would go from a great venue in ibiza rocks to spaces car park, hardly going up in the world is it!!??

Guess we'll just have to see what it's like at Space but I loved it at Ibiza Rocks last year, it was a brilliant venue for a daytime party which in effect it is8)
