Pete Tong Always Gets It Wrong

Look, the guys an old soul boy, mixing was something he had to learn late on in his career - he's been a radio dj since the early 80's when it wasn't the be all and end all for a dj to do seamless mixing.

The same very well placed radio source who told me the Pearce FACTS assures me of the FACT that pete for many years used a beat counter. That's not so unusual - many mixers these days have beat counters fitted as standard. And many compilations s mixed on Pro Tools, a computer programme.

I've also witnessed plenty of road-crash mixes even he's spinning live.

He commands such respect because when dance music was at it's zenith he had a radio show with a massive audience, so people were nice to him so that they would get their records played on the radio.

He also ran through London Records through FFRR, so he commanded respect becausehe had a keen ear (salt & pepa - push it, Lil Louis - French Kiss) being some of his early signings.

In fact the geezer's never had a name as a big club jock really - he's not up there with the Tennaglia's , Coxes, Knuckles, Lawlers, D Carter's etc - it's his radio hsow and label that knocked on to his club profile.

as they're one of his old producers...i assume so.

unless it's a fit of spite, maybe they fell out over some tribal loops.

I think the fact that pete tong was THE sound of the mid nineties radio is enough really.

I don't care if he isn't the best mixer out there - he still was responsible for inspiring a generation on many friday nights from 1994 right through to today!

What he acheived with bbc 1 and Saturdays with danny rampling on the lovegroove dance party was a landmark in the house music scene in this country....wether you like it or not.

Wether he can mix or not is largely irrelevant...he has been a catalyst for many many dj's to showcase their talent and without his show house would never have had its impact over the last 10 years.
