punta help please.. plus colombia

hope no-one minds me highjacking this post.. i am in argentina (creamfields this weekend!!!!) and heading to punta del este before the end of the month.. can anyone give me some advice on where to stay, when the summer season really starts (bit worried i am too early), which are the best beaches, bars, clubs etc

ancient - i was in colombia earlier in the year for a while.. the country is a lot safer this past year.. what sort of advice are you after.. the clubbing in bogota is great, and the city is safer than say lima, quito or san jose.. the people are warm and friendly too.. and there arent many tourists there.. if you need a place to crash in bogota i can recommend the platypus hostel... its run by a guy called herman who knows everything there is to know about the city and will be able to point in the right direction for whatever you need.. hope that helps.. if you have specific questions write back and i'll try to help best i can.. cheers all

a bit closer to home.......carl cox told me a couple of years ago that CORSICA is a pretty amazing place with a similar vibe to ibiza 10 -15 years ago.

not been myself.........anyone been there......agree / diasagree??

I'm off to Marrakech in April, staying here http://www.casalalla.com

Can't wait. really lookiong forward to wandering around the medina etc.
The advice on here has been really helpful!
Mark B - you'll have to gives us a review when you get back.

Punta del Este is amazing. I love that place. Partying is mostly centred around La Barra area. For incredible sunsets (even more enjoyable and relaxing than the Café del Mar types) can be witnessed at Cream in José Ignacio about some 20 kms north of Punta. Some nice small hotels around that area as well.
Beautiful beaches, beautiful people, beautiful scenery and the Uruguayans are the second nicest and most friendly people in Latin America (after the Brazilians of course).
Grego, I don't know what Carl Cox was on when he said Corsica was like Ibiza 10-15 years ago. NO WAY. First, Corsica is alot bigger, people are alot less friendly and not tolerant whatsoever. It is beautiful however, but overrun with a certain type of French person from the continent in the summer - I'd stay away and go off season for the beauty. But definitely don't go in search of a good vibe. Corsicans are notoriously suspicious of anyone or anything non-Corsican.
I'm leaving for Buenos Aires in about 13 hours - for Creamfields of course!

i think what he was gettin at was that he'd dj'ed at some quiet beach/hilltop style party and the vibe at them reminded him of the open air days on the white isle.

I was gonna do my year out there during my french degree (but i flunked and did something else) so I know that it can be a quite volatile place but I suppose not that dissimilar to parts of spain in wanting their independence!

I mean..like.....Napoleon was born there...........so what do u expect the people to be like!!

nice one tycoon.. if you need an accomodation recommendation let me know.. there are plenty of hostels around the 20 peso / 4 euro / 7 dollar mark.. about ten people from this hostel are going.. should be a laugh.. and boca are playing thursday night if u like footy.. club 69 at niceto afterwards.. enjoy..

Brazil is def. on my to go list.

I 've heard good things about Bogata as well.. and heard the nightlfie is quite good as well. A lot of place get a bad rap from sensationalised CNN news or over cautious warnings .. usually from people who havent' stepped out of their own country!

I have to say I'm surprised to see all the comments about Morocco. While I had a great time there, its not a place I'd think ofgo to go go clubbing or compare it to Ibiza... so many more things to see in Morocco than clubs.. ( guess things have changed!)

I was traveling on my own there (female) about 5 years ago, and you do get unwanted attention, but its not as bad as Egypt (where some guy wanked on me on a bus! )

I had a couple of guys grab me, but you can embarass them by shoving them away... This would bother a lot of women, understandably but its one of the things you ahve to be prepared for before going there.
worked for me... I would dress more conservatively there.. but then I didn't go clubbing in Morocco so I don't know party attire is there
