OCD habits

I can't close my eyes to fall asleep unless I look at the clock and it is on one of the intervals of five. If it is 1:11 then I have to wait until 1:15 to close my eyes and if I miss that window, then on and on it goes...it is absolutely ridiculous.

I can't go to sleep unless I finish a pack of cigarettes, even if I a barely opened it. Sometimes, I end up going to bed sick because of this...

I can't study unless my house is clean, so half the time I just don't study!

When I was little, I couldn't fall asleep without praying for like an hour. I had to say everyone's full name and their location and the Lord's Prayer. Luckily I got over that one

But I don't think it is OCD quirks, as I read them over, it seems I have problems about going to sleep and I am just trying to keep myself awake or something.

I am a constant "do I have the doors locked" (in the car, to my apartment etc.) girl, as well as, "do I have my keys/card/ID/gum/smokes/lighter/lip stick, gloss/eye drops" girl. This is before AND after a night out. I just think about how much it would suck to be without certain things when I am out and about.... and the locking doors thing stems from when my granny and grandpa were driving in San Francisco. Some homeless and crazy dude came up and opened all their car doors, frantically requesting cash and food. Then he shut them all and started screaming "chinese fire drill!!!" Slammed my cousin's fingers in the door. Awful!! So yeah, I am a little OCD but mainly it is to avoid future inconvenience. My boy rolls his eyes when it is happening, but always rewards me with a huge hug and kiss after I have assuredly saved the day LOLOLOL. :P :P :P

I guess he takes care of your share of checking.

I think I've actually made him worse after leaving my straighteners on a few years ago, half way to Birmingham in our way to Global Gathering I have one of those 'flashbacks' - 'Errrr Tom I've got this horrible feeling I didn't turn my straighteners off'

Cue him having to call his mum, get her up and send her all the way round to ours with a spare key and lo and behold there were my straighteners sat there overheating for 3+ hours :?

I wish I checked things a bit more, I'm always leaving things on. I once left an iron on for about 3 days 8O absolutely amazed the room didn't catch on fire or something.

my room was really cosy when I got home though!

it was more the intensity of his actions. hours just inching things about mm by mm, it was awful. :( i think differently about OCD now after seeing that. Its not just checking things are locked 5 times before going to bed. Pretty scary affliction methinks!

I do this sort of things I allways check, some times more then a time, before going to sleep I check all doors and windows, when I go from home I check all doors, windows, ligths, watter taps, coocker, iron etc.
I have to sleep with the door shut no matter if it is very hot, the door must be shut.
I have to go seated in the midle of the bus , just next to the windowframe I don't know why I think is much saver.
With the missus out of town this week, I've turned into a major obsessive compulsive. :? I have to keep checking the iron to make sure I turned it off, check to see that the gas is off on the stove and double check that I've locked the door when I leave.
I think she's made me paranoid after I got chewed out for leaving the iron on once a few weeks ago (she was at home the whole time, so I'm not sure what the big deal was! )
Even if that wasn't her intention, it's totally worked. Complete paranoia has set in.

Yes, I bumped it... I became aware of my recently-intensified obsessive compulsiveness today and recalled this thread from a few weeks ago.

How are you dealing with your OCD habits, Becks?

I've come to the conclusion I'm far too lazy to have OCD. I can't even remember to turn the iron off after I use it let alone turn every plug off in the house!

I think mine are just little quirky things ;)

I did it again this morning... had to unlock the door to go back inside and make sure I turned the iron off. This, despite making a mental note of having done so earlier.

I do that with my straightening irons every day. and then I get to the bus stop and I'm still not sure and have to stop myself going back and checking again. :?

Oh, I know! I'll have walked 5 minutes and running late for work as usual and I think, do I add another 10-15 minutes to my lateness by returning home to double check again? At that point, you don't, of course. But then it haunts you half the day :?
