OCD habits

Topic for a Wednesday morning:

I was listening to the radio this morning, and they were talking about a program on last night about a guy with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). People were calling up and telling the show host about their own little OCD traits!

Has anyone got any funny things they have to do otherwise they'll panic and wont be able to function normally? 8O

Mine would be:

I cant have the radio volume on an odd number

The blinds in my bedroom always have to be facing towards the ceiling before I can sleep, and if they're not, when I turn them the "proper" way, I can't look out the window while I'm doing it, I have to close my eyes 8O  (I know this is very weird)

If I'm walking with someone near to an edge (i.e the tube platform, a river etc) I always have to walk on the inside of them, so I'm nearer the "drop" - I think this is more to do with me worrying they'll fall off the edge 8O

When I purchase a beer, I have to drink it all the way to the bottom. No leaving a drop or two behind!

Much less now, if at all, but I used to constantly go back to check I'd locked the car/turned off the taps/ shut the front door. Seemed tail off with the reduction of my chemical consumption

i cant have money on me for more than 2 mins without the urge to go spend it on anything.

i blame my old man.

i can't go to sleep at night if the tv isn't on and can't get into bed unless i know where the remote control is (i.e. needs to be in my hand) :? :?

that was actually quite disturbing/thought-provoking that program. I really didn't know how much it affected peoples lives. A combination of ignorance and naivety I suppose. Its amazing how we take oridinariness for granted.

I do things like that... but that's because I often forget to lock the door or turn off the iron. Gives the missus fits

Pep always does the same: did I lock the car? Really, in five years never forgot to lock the car and never forgot to ask it and never forgot to check it

I do this sort of things I allways check, some times more then a time, before going to sleep I check all doors and windows, when I go from home I check all doors, windows, ligths, watter taps, coocker, iron etc.
I have to sleep with the door shut no matter if it is very hot, the door must be shut.
I have to go seated in the midle of the bus , just next to the windowframe I don't know why I think is much saver.

I caught the last 25 mins of the programme last night. It was really sad. The poor man's life is run by his OCD. His rituals are such that when he gets them "right" he says it feels like he has just had sex! After spending hours in the kitchen performing his rituals his wife joked that the kitchen was his lover.

They showed his son's girlfriend cooking dinner for the family in the house and it made him so anxious that she was in his kitchen upsetting it that he felt he could kill her for interferring in his kitchen. He also has a drink problem which he says he wouldn't have if it didn't have the OCD.

Tom is a compulsive checker, we'll be ready to go out and then it takes him another 10 minutes to check check check everything godknowshowmanytimes  He even checks things that haven't been used like the cooker, straighteners and he insists on unplugging everything

Then he has to check that he's locked the door about 10x

I just leave the flat and go

I can't start work unless I've opened two explorer windows first. One for my email account and one for Spotlight.

That guy's OCD was very severe. I actually can't believe he still has a family around him. That would drive you nuts. Suppose in that respect he is very very lucky. I kept shouting at the telly for him to just get a flipping grip. I'm just to lazy to have OCD. I suppose at times I would like things to be in theire place, but my power of reasoning says I will exert less power by not having ti in place. Therefore, I'd rather just forget about it. Blah blah blah.

Reckon if he was treated much earlier on in his life it wouldn't have developed so bad. Had a friend who developed it, but ended up getting treatment for it and is now fine. He still has the underlying symptoms, but also has been taught a different thought process so it doesn't effect him (the type of process we take for granted)

Hmmmm not sure thats classed as OCD Morb
Are you sure? What if you tip the glass/bottle back a couple of times just to make sure there's no drops left?

I do the Radio thing as well, must be an even number. Nearly all my mates do it too, i think it's quite popular. Odd numbers are just wrong aren't they.
