but the pope can say that being homosexual is intrisically (sp) evil and barely no-one bats an eyelid

exactly.

that kind of public homophobia is not on in the year 2005.

and going back to the comment of Craigy B, would be interested to read an answer to Buckleys question!

it's good, satirical banter and it's healthy!!!

8)

it is if people know why they are talking about it rather than putting there 2 pennies worth in for the sake of it!

Which bits aren't right then, Mr. Digits? I'll take some education in payment for entertaining?

people, people, people, how many of you actually attend church and/or follow religion? from reading some of the threads not a very high %age, I know its an open chat forum but this is a sensitive area for some to be so opinionated on a subject which probably comes well behind your valid opinions on ibiza and clubbing.

don't mean to preach (no pun intended!) but get a grip, how many of you is it really going to affect in your everyday life :? .

good luck to the bloke, 14 hours work a day is tough for anyone let alone a 78 year old!!![/i]

If we consider he is the moral leader of 1.000.000.000 people and the huge role of the church in the history then I think it will affect my life, even tho I'm agnostic

from my point of view, i don't want one of the most powerful leaders in the world to contaminate peoples minds with the anti-gay vibe, when such good progress has been made in the past few years.

i think it's pretty nieve to think that the appointment of a new pope will only affect staunch catholics.

I like the Pope
The Pope smokes dope
He'll smoke it all
From skunk to rope
Or nugs and buds
That reek of hope
I like the Pope
The Pope smokes dope.
A telescope
Reveals the Pope
Purveying evil's antidote:
The Pontiff is
No misanthrope:
He'll help you cope
He'll share his dope.

The bishops' vote
Elects a Pope
To lead the Church
And saints promote.
White puffs of smoke
Announce the bloke
Who'll sit and toke
Saint Peter's dope.

The dopin' Pope
Will take a toke
On any weed
That he can smoke
From joints or bongs
He'll hit and croak:
"I am the Pope ...
And I smoke dope."

Anybody who thinks the election of a different pope would have softened the Catholic Church's standpoint on issues such as homosexuality and abortion is being naive.

The so called reformists within the church might have softened their viewpoint on things such as divorce in certain instances, but unfortunately reform on issues such as homosexuality are many many years away because they are so fundamental to the fabric of its beliefs.

not good, but sadly true :?

Maybe one of us should tip them the wink: THE BULK OF WHAT YOU BELIEVE: IT'S NOT VERY LIKELY!

Says who?

I think you'd be surprised at the amount of people who disagree with you.

(Not that I do) But who's to say you're right and he's wrong?

No-one. It's his opinion, yours is yours.

This is the thing that pisses me off onthe whole Pope thing.

People focus on the fact that their beliefs are anti abortion/contraception and anti gay, yet fail to see any good that the church role plays in modern society.

Some people have to appreciate that not everyone can lead the liberal, modern life that they themselves can lead.

But Dan, if some one is openly racist, wouldn't that be the overiding facet of their character that left an impression on you?

"Well, yeah, he hates black people, but he's really nice to cats!" - doesn't really wash does it?

Depends on the context, and the comparison between racism and homphobia is awkward at best

If it was some guy who gave an entire nation sole hope against being overtaken by a ruling oppressive nation, and gave approx 1 billion worldwide reason for getting out of bed every day, and, supposing he could justify his racist beliefs, than I'd be dissappointed if he was simply known as a racist pig, and nothing else.

A forum is a place where people can talk and express their views/feelings/advice/help on a myriad of subjects, some are experts, some are not, If everybody was an expert on everything, It would be very boring on here. I have picked up some great tips on here!! As long as people dont get personal or threatening, I dont see the harm. And if people who go out at weekends shoving tonnes of chemicals down their throats, get upset at a bit of good natured "pope baiting" I think they need to have alook at themselves?? :? ;)

p.s I can never thank Nitlefly enough for the PM about putting greased marbles up my ass during a *beep*, it's changed my life!!!! ;)

i agree with alot of what you say, i have also picked up some good tips here, but how to bash a pope is one tip i don't need, let him get on with it! i do however take offence to you assuming i take chemicals at the weekend, please get your facts right before quoting me in future 8O , maybe you should take a look at yourself!
