New Noise Sensitive Areas Created In Ibiza Town.
Areas within Ibiza Town will be classified according to the noise pollution which exists & which will be allowed in the future under a new by law passed this week. This will affect residencies & businesses in these areas as well as public amenities such as schools & hospital, which will have to comply with the new permitted noise pollution levels or face heavy fines or even not be granted an opening license in the case of some businesses such as bars.
Cars & other vehicle will also be controlled under this new by law. Noise creating vehicles will be out on a register & fined but if they carry on creating noise pollution then they will be impounded by the police. Though these measures were well received by most people in Ibiza Town, there were those who criticised the new laws saying that there were not enough police in the town to be able to enforce them.

Huge Fines if you Make a Noise.
The new harsher by laws controlling noise pollution in Ibiza Town were finally put into force this week. Noisy vehicles can be confiscated & fined & bars making too much noise can be closed indefinitely under these new rules. Before a business is closed it will be fined & these can range from 600€ to 300.000€. Noise limiters will be obligatory in all pubs & bars.
Noise in the street is also controlled by these new by laws & it is prohibited to sing & shout after 22h until 08h. The same applies to people throwing bottles or other glass objects into the selective rubbish containers because they break & make a noise!
These laws certainly seam harsh & severe & for sure will be used to clamp down on certain bars, which create problems for their neighbours as they are an obvious target which will get wide coverage in the press & lots of public approval. However, as always, the law is open to interpretation & it needs to be applied equally across the board for it to be fair. The Ibiza Sun wonders if the Town Hall in Ibiza Town has the man power or the political will power to do this.

i was so surprised when i played my first gig in the port & was told @ 1am that i had to turn the music down to bearly audible!!!!!!!! 8O all i kept thinking was "but this is IBIZA!!!!!"

as the season progressed i started to understand the reasoning for the restrictions. imagine you lived in eivissa all year round & every summer your beautiful island was inhabited by loud and rowdy tourists just wanting to party, party, party 24/7? i stayed @ a mates place in the port one night & could hardly get an hours worth of sleep due to excessive noise!!!!!!!

it's a matter of respect for the locals who live there & dont want or feel they should live in such conditions just because ibiza has turned in2 this party island of the world..... IMHO anyways....

i think the ibizean government had a little chat w/t BUSH (the devil...uh...ehem piece of s***...uhem). On that note, next, maybe they'll enforce a dress code like no topless beaches. WOW, that would really...............suck

This is one of the reasons why we always stay out of the main areas when we are in Ibiza on holiday, I need peace and quiet on holiday ie; the ability to sleep on those nights off, along with the option to go absolutely crazy......

I couldnt imagine staying in a main resort 24/14.... think my head would explode..... in my opinion, and for my sanity its worth the extra cash in taxi fares to stay outside the main resorts.... lovely!

in related news (and as previously reported here)..........

CCTV Starts To Be Installed In The Port.
The work needed to install the 12 CCTV cameras in the port of Ibiza, ready for this coming summer started this week. Diggers could be seen making the trench needed to pass the cables to connect the cameras before the posts & cameras themselves are installed. Once working, the port authorities will connect the cameras in Ibiza with an administration centre here on the island & with those in all the other ports around the Baleares to increase the level of safety & security at all their installations.

summer is here and some music equipments have been sealed already. the other night for example 5 bars in ibiza town got the music sealed, 5 in just one night. 3 for having the noise limiters manipulated, 1 for having it disconnected and 1 for not having it. 3 of the bars affected are located in the port, 1 in marina botafoch and 1 in c. jaime I (pub suy?)..........
