most ses salines and es cavallet restaurants to be knocked down ! !

But Benidorm it's not a protected area, neither Salou, Lloret or Magalluf.

Sevilla, you know it's not first time we hear news like this, even in not protected areas we have seen buildings - chiringuitos knoked down.
Our coastline is a massive disgrace, and as much as I like the beach bars and specially Sa Trinxa and Guaraná, I think that anything done in order to protect or recover our coastline is a good action

I completely agree with you Silvia :)

I just criticize the wild building in some Spanish coasts...and even more if it's in a protected area like Ses Salines!!

an example of the various levels of politics in ibiza.

closing down salinas = national, environment ministry
closing down clubs = regional, government of ibiza and formentera

in this case clowsing down clubs was the decision of the Dirección Insular de la Administración del Estado en las Pitiüses and that is the Delegation of the State in Ibiza, la Administración Períférica del Estado, in one word the State. In fact the lawyers who are in court against the lawyers of DC10 are the Abogados (laywers) del Estado and not the abogados of the Govern Balear. Depending of the laws you are breaking then you know wich politic level is in charge. If it is a matter of noise, license, etc then the local authorities, if it is drugs then the State.
About the Salinas is truth that it is something national but before they asked a report to the Conselleria de Medi Ambient wich depends of the Balearic Goverment. In fact this Conselleria is in favour.
On the other hands all this levels of politics are quite complex to be resumed, in many subjects you can find 3 level of politics working together. The State, The Comunidad Autonoma and the local authorities.
We shouldn't be so dramatic about this project, in fact they are allready taking into account this places , is thrue they want to knock them down but they also say that there is the possibility of being rebuilt taking into account the new regulation. I love Sa Trinxa lots! but if in someway is harming the dunes well then I understand what they want to do and couldn't agree more and if f there is another way Sa Trinxa can be rebuilt following the regulation and not harming the dunes, then what would be the problem?.
Everybody happy!!!:D
At the moment is just a project!

I've been clapping hands everytime an illegal construction has been knocked down, I think it would be very hipocrital be upset because I just like the place.

Sandi, your comment about the authorities it's absolutly wrong :? It's exactly the same attitude of tourists who spend just 10 days in Ibiza and defend the motorway :?

on a curious note, last saturday outside amnesia there was two guys asking people to sign against it.....

coastal authorities want to knock down guaraná, jockey club, sa trinxa, malibú, el chiringuito and chiringay

haven´t most of them been around for like 20 years at least?

although I´ve heard like 6 years ago for the first time that Chiringay was more or less dependent on the goodwill of the authorities, so this news is not much of a surprise.

will be interesting to see how that all will work out.
and even more interesting to see if they will close down the beaches then, too
and... if there will suddenly be some upstart entrepreneur who will get a license for a beach bar on these beaches.

If this is true then it's very sad.

No Sa Trinxa, no Bora Bora, space with a roof & no DC-10 - errr - the end of the island as I know it that's for sure.:roll::roll:

Salinas is my absolute fave bit of the island.

There was disquiet amongst the popular restaurants of ses Salinas and es Cavallet last week as a report called for their demolition.
The controversial proposal released by the Environment Ministry concerns the affects over the last few years in the Southern coastal area of the island. +

The report came as a shock to local restaurant owners as it called for the demolition of six of the most famous beach restaurants on the island.

The establishments under threat are Guarana, Malibu, the Jockey Club and Sa Trinxa in ses Salinas and El Chiringuito and Chiringay in es Cavallet.

The report claims that, environmentally, the establishments have a severely negative effect on the coastal area and that all have been partly built on public property, signifying their illegality.
The report which began in 2000 aims to assess the environmental damage caused over the last few years within the area, especially to the dunes, and to advise on measures to help the recuperation of the zone in a protection programme that is set to cost 165,000 euros.
One of the measures recommended in the report is the demolition of the restaurants.

However to its credit, according to most sources, the report recognises the importance to tourism of the six restaurants, and does not rule out the possibility of re-building all of them on a smaller scale.

The restaurants are only allowed to be a maximum of 150 square metres, 100 of which can be enclosed.

All of the establishments currently exceed this legislation.

The restaurants immediately found an ally in the manager of Ibifor, who is also the representative of the establishments in the ses Salinas natural park.
He said that the project was positive, showing that the Environmental Department of the Central Government were taking seriously their obligations to protect the natural area.

However, he said the demolition of the restaurants would be a catastrophe for tourism, and should not even be contemplated. He remained confident that such measures would not be carried out.

The riposte from the restaurants was swift, with the manager of the Malibu restaurant, Ivano Recchia, claiming that the demolition of the restaurants would have an extremely negative effect on tourism. He said that they were just as concerned about the natural environment in the area, and in particular the dunes, but failed to see how buildings that had been there for over thirty years could possibly have an effect.

In a joint project, the restaurants immediately started to collect signatures of support from tourists and residents.
