Morocco

Some friends of mine went to Marrakesh last year. I don't remember the details but I know they weren't impressed...

Thinking of going for a couple of weeks in October

anyone been? Heard it's amazing, any hints and tips?

Most of my friends have moroco as you have Ibiza: they try to go at least once a year

Depending on whay are you looking for it could be a great holidays or horrid ones

see all the people I know have had an amazing time - it's cheap, loads to do (if you explore the country a bit)

interesting that some people didn't like it. We'd probably rent a car and travel around a bit rather than just stay in marrakesh

See I'm not a big weed smoker to be honest

It would be more of a dirrty back packing holiday, exploring silly places, but with the added touch of having air con when we stay places if possible because as a worker I can probably afford it

then it could suit you, it's cheap to get a hotel room with air con. I can get info from my friends for you if you want

Nooo...I love my vile, horrid Ibiza holidays!

Who wants a 'great holiday?' People that go to Las Vegas or on Sandals holidays have 'great holidays'! ;)

Good plan - I think the place itself can be a bit draining. Especially if you have women in your group because their attitude to white women who don't necessarily cover up like the locals stinks. ...if you do have girlies going with you, make sure they don't walk around on their own or they're likely to be treated like a whore. 8O

Morroco and Marrakech are great, I go every year and love it.

Essaouria ia also a beautiful place. There's also Tangiers, Rabat, Fes.

Marrakech: TBH I can't see how anyone can't be impressed.

You may not like the hustle and bustle and the almost medieval setting, but see the place at night, the atmosphere is amazing.
You can step from dusty side streets filled with hawkers and hustlers into the immaculate piano bars with tuxedoed bar staff for a gin and tonic, rest awhile and then jump back into the street for more chaos.
Food is typical north african fare such as tangines, cous cous or tradiational French. I ordered a morrocan salad, and ended up eating sheeps brains. But it's all part of the experience.

It's a great country to go for an adventure, just avoid Agadir. Vile place. Concrete city built after an earthquake.

I think that's what happened with my friends... a lot of unwanted attention.

well it is their country. so they can pretty much do as they please, even if it doesnt conform to the western ideals of being equal blah blah blah

oh no, I want a vile holiday experience with lots of nasty stories to bring back don't get me wrong! All the best holiday stories are the ones about bad things that happened  (of course I don't want to get robbed or bombed 8O )

Might have a girlie going with us, not sure yet. But I know loads of girls that have been that enjoyed it - seems every Ethno Rah at my university had been and brought back a sienna miller outfit with them and a hookah

sounds awesome - definitely think I'll try and book the flights soonish - they're only £140 return with British Airways in October at the moment

You've got to remember that it's a muslim country, which is hard to forget as the call to prayers wails out every few hours across the city from the Koutoubia Mosque, which can give the place an erie feeling.

Just don't wear shorts or short skirts in the public squares and souks and you should be okay.

My missus, who is a natural flesh bearer  , just wore long floaty skirts during the day. But once youre in the hotel anything goes, round the pool etc. On a night it gets quite chilly, so she used to wear a pashmina over what ever she would normally wear over here. I tried to get her to wear a burka, but she was having none of it. It is more restricive in some ways, but you don't notice it unless you're disrespectful and actract attention for the wrong reasons. I don't hink you'll have much trouble being there on your own. My wife used to go shopping in the souks on her own when i went for a swim and she had no trouble. And excuse me if i say it myself, she's very attractive.

But the most trouble we had was some disapproving looks from ancient old men beside the mosque. but they may just have had wind.
