Morbyd

Shhh... quiet about the blow or we'll lose those Bible-loving Missourians in a minute!

I'm feeling increasingly good about Obama. I'm pretty much ready to get behind him over Hillary. I still wish he were white, though  Just not sure the country's "ready"

It is amazing how quickly the tide turned on the Republican side. McCain, whose poll numbers had been tanking all autumn, now the frontrunner. Giuliani, who had been leading in national polls the whole time, now out of the race (just goes to show how local these state-by-state primaries really are). Huckabee hasn't quite capitalized on his early win, while Romney has blown millions and millions of his own money and still is only second.

I gave an interview to BBC Russian Service today about how Americans abroad see the election... amazing how hard it is to describe politics in a foreign language! .

So would I as Hillary is as rough as ****:lol:!

Ya, but we really only had the 2 of them to choose from, didn't we?

Actually, Richardson wouldn't have been a bad choice but he got zero traction in this race... and John Edwards is as phoney as they come! (edit. I take that back. Mitt Romney is worse )

what is it with that "all american, gillette razor man" look?

its cheesy as hell ffs... so early 80s...

I know... I keep thinking that if Romney gets too warm he'll melt... he looks like a wax figure!

What can you tell me about this man:

obamaST_243x296.jpg

He's got his "Shearer goal celebration" impression down to a T.

Going to win it too (the US elections, not the "Best Shearer Celebration" contest)). Or at lest he'll pip Hillary. She shows a snappy side far too easily, and just can't do that 'pandering to the idiots' act that's necessary (no offence) as she has spent the past 10 years convincing the world she's some smart independant woman. Plus the ghost of getting there on hubbys pigtails prevents her from guaranteeing the female vote like I assume she would have.

Barack a good sort that appeals to all. Apart from the intstitutionally racist deep south (of which there are still quite a few) and big businessmen looking for someone a touch more ameanable to their interests (lesser in number but greater in influence (funding!)).

A friendly novelty. History book are littered with them (see RedKen 2.0). Though whether he'll have any substance or not is a different matter.

The whole problem with peoples political view of the States is the international niavety with the lesser 'covered' (reported on) areas.

If you did a straw pole of people interviewed or have submitted an opinion or commentary on Bush vs. Gore, you'd wonder where the hell his votes came from (dodgy hanging chads and accusations of 'cheating' aside). It just never 'makes sense'. But it must do somewhere.

And that's why I'm holding out for calling this one.

SHEARER!

It's been pretty predictable the past couple of elections. Basically split down the middle, population wise:
Southern, Great Plains, Mountain states (people with funny accents) - Republican
East/Northeast, Midwest, West Coast states (non-country music listeners) - Democrat

Remember, our president is chosen by the number of States he gets and their requisite electoral votes, not by the popular vote (poor Al Gore!).

Obama excites people. McCain seems more like a safety choice.

If that statement is really true, then Obama might actually carry some of those southern states because his base (esp. southern black voters) would be more energized than some of the Bible-thumping Republicans down that way.

McCain has proven to be moderate on some issues (though not the war) and has good track record of attracting independents. He might actually make inroads in formerly-Democratic territory.

Strewth, missed this the 1st time!!
Exhausting reading! A roller coaster ride!

This seems to be going on for aggggeeees?
When is the new President in Office?

Party conventions in the summer. Election in November. Inauguration in January. Still a long way to go!

Huckabee has drawn first blood on Super Tuesday. He's won the West Virginia caucuses... (mainly because McCain supporters through him their support to thwart Romney!)

Actually, McCain getting the nomination will probably help the Dems as there is little love lost between him and the 'base' (a euphemism for right wing christians) and I wouldn't be surprised if he loses as many of them to non voting as he picks up from independants.

Obama seems to be on a roll, one should never underestimate the power of hope.

I think one of the reasons that this election has taken a grip on peoples imagination is that it is not sinking into a torrent of abuse and bad is not (yet) driving out good. Bush's tactics were always to accentuate the negative and campaign with fear (a trick he learnt from his dad who's election campaigns were case studies in negativity) wheras this time people genuinely seem interested in ideas.

Hillary's (and more pertinently) Bill's slating of Obama and their playing of the race card went down very badly in South Carolina and it seems that the more folks see of her, the less they like her.
(I see she has got the onion out again)
The whole 'Ive been tested through thick and thin' line she is spinning ignores the fact that it is her divisive and aggressive personality which draws the attacks! Obama represents (IMHO) a chance for America to break from the past(present) in a way not seen since JFK. Plus just imagine how a young man in say, Lebanon would feel to look at the USA and see a man in the White House with the middle name Hussein.

We shall see

Go Huckerbee!!!!!!!

Someone's been watching a bit too much American TV!

I forgot to mention earlier that I could quite easily find myself out of a job if Hillary gets elected. Which is a bit of a sticky point I must admit.

i've been campaigning for obama for 2 years now, i thought you said it was too early morbs! ;)

the thing is clinton and obama are fairly close on the political spectrum and there aren't many issues on which they differ greatly. on that basis, obama's honesty, dynamism and radical appetite for change should make him the clear favourite.

however, we are dealing with a population who voted bush in two times!
######################

this is my fav story of the last few weeks, when they were asked about their weaknesses. as vomit inducing as clinton's answer is, obama's wit pronounces it even more

cant they go on as Clinton as Pres/Obama VP?

that would give the democrats a good 16yrs in office.

they could do, i'm not sure that arrangement would work though. i can't imagine either adopting the role of VP in its current guise. if hilary wins, obama is a cert for future president.

if obama wins, i don't think clinton would campaign again.

I'm thinking of putting a bet on McCain for that very reason.

I'm serious my friend. Messages of hope can produce landslide wins. Tony Blair, JFK, Ronnie Regan, Harold Wilson even evil Thatch all changed the political landscape for a generation by appealing to peoples better qualities. Negativity can win elections but it is a short-lived win (see Bush pere and fils) Note also that Sunshine Dave Cameron is ahead in the polls but Moody David does much less well.

details please!!
