. I went into the Cafe del Mar lounge place when flight got delayed. Was about 3 Euros for a coke and got to sit in a nice comfy environment overlooking the planes with a table whilst whipping my laptop out to pass the time. Well worth it. Shame they were closing 20 minutes later and chucked out by the cleaners

If you used a debit card to pay for Monarch flights, call your bank immediately and instigate a "charge back" against their bank account. If you paid by PayPal instigate a dispute and escalate to claim right away. In the lowcostholidays debacle this was effective in many cases where people didn't use a credit card for over £100 and didn't buy an ATOL protected package either, their bank or PayPal got the money back for them.

If you paid by credit card more than £100 just do a Section 75 claim - call your card issuer.

Always use my credit card, for reasons, money back section 75 if it goes wrong. However when I booked my flights on line, the Monarch site would not accept my credit card, absolutely no reason for this, always use it no problem, so rather than loose the seats I tried with my Visa debit card. The Monarch site only offered Visa credit card, not debit card. I phoned them and after waiting for 20 mins eventually spoke to one of their staff, she said the site for payments was down, however she said she could take my visa debit over the phone, which I did. Looking back why did she not take my credit card over the phone, why suggest I use my debit card. This was only July this year, what did they know then.

It would likely be due to credit card companies not releasing the cash for the flight until they have travelled
