Monarch collapse

Thanks to Monarch, I won't be in Ibiza NEXT WEEK......and they've got my money, gutted.

. No alternative flights ? I'm guessing all the remaining flights in and out of the island are going to jump in price to crazy levels between Ryanair and Monarch screwing people over. Very few people pay for Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance on their travel insurance - but check if you have it.

They were a useful competitor on the massively overpriced regional routes especially Birmingham and Manchester where other carriers often rob you blind. Huge on Faro and Madeira too. Hopefully others will step in and fill the gap there must be a huge number of available landing slots opening up and certain airports !

I got a friend with two seats on flights she isn't going to use. Liverpool to ibiza this Friday returning Monday. If you could use any of these me know

Thanks a lot mate, sadly I work in the NHS and I can't move my time off, I've have even considered throwing a sickie, because at 9am this morning I looked green, when finding out the doom, they would have bought it......sadly they would have seen my near on tears turn to rage when stomped on what was a my mouse a hour later

If you used a debit card to pay for Monarch flights, call your bank immediately and instigate a "charge back" against their bank account. If you paid by PayPal instigate a dispute and escalate to claim right away. In the lowcostholidays debacle this was effective in many cases where people didn't use a credit card for over £100 and didn't buy an ATOL protected package either, their bank or PayPal got the money back for them.

If you paid by credit card more than £100 just do a Section 75 claim - call your card issuer.

I always pay for holiday stuff with CC. It might cost a few quid more (with flights)but I see it as an insurance.

I got charged twice for amnesia drinks deal in August, my cc company soon sorted it. They couldn’t have been more helpful.

Monarch sent me this email on 20th September. Over 100,000 tickets on sale.

I flew to Ibiza in 2015 with Monarch airlines. My flight landed at 4am and was not cheap. Had to book an extra night at the hotel just so I could check-in at 6am instead of waiting to 1pm. That said, I thought their on-flight service was ok. Sad they are going. With fewer airlines providing the service it means there will be less competitive prices.

.

I flew with them this year out of Birmingham. Their seats were always much more comfy than most and their in-flight service much better than Easyjet or Ryanair. As long as you didn't wind up on one of their 3am specials they were actually pretty decent. Also sad they've gone - but they did wind up the extras costs this year a bit too much. Clearly not enough to save themselves though !!

I must say I’ve always rated Monarch for the same reasons as kimajy - flown with them lots of times to/from Ibiza. Sad to see them go. Am just looking at last min flights for this week and not liking the prices... especially for October :(

saw a couple of bargains , but also saw some returns to Manchester >£300 one way!

Cunts like O'leary, will now be exploiting the ex monarch workers. Putting them on shit contracts,at a time when they're desperate.

I heard that most of ryanairs problems are down to staff leaving him,its f*** all to do with them using up holidays. Cunts like him cut everything to the bone... and drag industries down with them.

A sad sign of the times unfortunately.

I've seen it loads with my work on both sides. Never nice to see people lose their jobs but on the plus side more people than ever are flying now so at least it appears to be a growing industry that will require skilled people.

My lad was thinking of trying to be a commercial pilot but further reading on the Ryanair and monarch stuff has made him think twice. The working conditions imposed upon people who are responsible for keeping hundreds of people safe at a time is pretty surprising
