If it does transpire that it was the one or both of the parents faults...they will become the most hated couple in britain and further. Apparently She was offered a lighter sentance if she admitted responsibility...I don't think it's the sentance she should be worrying about to be honest...they will be bombarded by rioters!

I don't for one minute believe that the parents had anything to do with it.
I think the portugese police just want to scare them so they will stop bringing 'bad publicity' to the town. It's all so awful.

I do not believe the parents have anything to do with it.

They've kept the issue in the spotlight through temendous efforts on their part.

Surely if they were guilty they would want everything to fade into the background as soon as possible. To be honest if it wasn't for their efforts we probably wouldn't even be discussing it today.Surely the McCanns would have came back to the UK ages ago if they had wanted the case to fall out of the spotlight, which surely you would do if you had something to hide.

It doesn't add up. And to suggest that it was all a big smokescreen seems ridiculous to me.

The Portugese police seem to have no consistency and have done nothing to inspire any faith in their competence.

I think it's typical that suddenly they are guilty (Kate McCann was jeered by a crowd as she went in for questioning:roll:) in many folks eyes. It seems that people almost want them to be guilty. It's like a mob mentality.

Bore off. Let the girl RIP, let us know what the result of the case is but all this ****e just pisses me off and was so more during the peak of 5 a day reports on her. I care more about the millions of Africans dying and soldiers we are sending to their death than one girl. It's only coz it is a "little girl" that it has grabbed the attention of the media. All the money spent on the campaign could of saved thousands of people starving.

So if it was your little girl, you'd say "Call off the search, you're wasting money"

And if your parent had cancer you'd say, don't waste money on all these expensive driugs - give the money to UNICEF?

Or rather than pissing all your money away on drinking and partying you'd instead give it to those would need it more than you?

No, of course you don't / wouldn't, -

(Q)so why expect other people to have these lofty and wise principles you don't have yourself?

(A) because talks cheap

I'm not passing judgement, but I disagree here.

Once you've started the juggernaut of international publicity, it's hard to get off the ride. They've raised a lot of money and met a lot of influential people. As soon as you let up, people could think you don't care anymore.

So, you'd keep doing the things you have to do to make people think you're still looking for your child. Eventually, the press dies down and you can reduce your activity and go back to your life.

A bit of Devil's Advocate in what I'm saying, but I don't think their actions over the past months rules out their potential as suspects. I think we'd all like for them not to be involved, but we'll have to wait and see.

I can only assume that the Portuguese police have some evidence of which we are unaware. I doubt they'd change their focus just to save face.

In agreement here, shocking the way the McCanns are being treated.

I wince at the fact that they admit to sedating the children when they went out for the meal .. it doesn't paint them in a good light .. however, I'm all for the innocent until proven guilty thing ..

Is that actually true that they used to knock their kids out with medicine 8O

Apparently so, which is why I don't think you can totally rule out the other version of events that's emerged.

As Saffy says, innocent until proven guilty. But, without more detail on the police's evidence, I don't see how people firmly say the McCanns aren't involved.

Maybe I misread something, but I think they have (though everything in the newspapers, especially in the UK, should be taken with the requisite tablespoon of NaCl)

Unfortunately I dont think the true events will ever come to light, leaving various lives destroyed in it's wake. Whether that be The McCanns, Murat, or the webdesigner arguido! People will always have their suspicions thanks to the media led circus which has sadly (arguably) only sold papers as opposed to having any positive impact on the case.

From the outset I thought the way the parents have acted seemed somewhat unusual but it is difficult to precict how anyone 'should' react in such circumstances. We only know what we read in the papers so I would avoid over-analysing their plight to the lengths of some posters above. I'm sure the same people who booed Murat when he received Arguido status were present to offer their taunts to kate on the 7th September. An example of how opinion is easily changed!

Lets not forget that DNA is not the definitive case closer we see in the movies. There are various factors which affect how relevant a finding is to a case.

Wise words sir.

The man on the street's rush to declare that 'I always said the dad's eyes looked shifty' etc etc is predictably lame.

I don’t think they had anything to do with it either.

The Portuguese police have been inept from the start, this is a huge high profile case with the attention of the worlds press. The pressure is on to get a result and they have no leads, no ideas and no clue who did it.
From all the witness statements that I have read I fail to see how either of the McCanns could have killed her, disposed of the body and then casually gone back to dinner with all their friends as if nothing had happened!! That just beggars belief!

And then, 25 days later (under intense media scrutiny) they nip back to the hotel/scene of the crime and remove a body (badly decomposed which would stink to high heaven) and dump it elsewhere!

Rubbish!

I dont think they did admit to that - I think they strongly denied doing that...

My granny used to make me go to sleep by giving me an egg cup of sherry - but it was acceptable in the 60's she also used to hold me whilst smoking one of her prescription menthol fags too whilst clouding me in a fog of nicotine...

Lovely.....

Yes yes and yes again. I aint no detective, but the portugese police do have the air of the key stone cops about them.

All true in the smaller, more personal context but as a multi million pound campaign affecting alot of people I think I would be able to draw a line.
