try not to look too embarrassed when asking for a paja...
I remember when I was around 11 I was in holidays in France at a camp site.whilst we're on languages, check this guy out. Am guessing even Stivi doesn't speak Luxembourgish!
Oh, that bellend again....
I live in a predominantly Mexican neighborhood, and the same exact thing happens to me - No Spanish for you, Gringo!Used to open more doors tbh. I find everyone answers in English here now. A combination of my terrible accent leading people to assume I'll find it a struggle and also people wanting to practice their English. Something that irritates me but the world's changed.. of course switching btwn langs is exhausting a lot of the time, esp when humour doesn't translate or when things get misunderstood but that's the price of moving abroad.. the only real issue for me though is at the doctor or dealing on phone with call centres, or anything technical... Then it can get problematic haha
Don't worry about the rrr... Just practice speaking, even better after a few drinks to get over self conscious thoughts. I became fluent after marriage (Argentine wife, lived in Puerto Rico 6 yrs speaking full time in professional environment), and never learned to roll my r's.Apologies for bumping an old thread.
But I'm at the beginning of trying to learn some Spanish. I'm using the Rocket language app.
Now my R's in English are bad enough(think welease woger in Life of Brian). Maybe not quite that bad but mates take the piss still.
However, the R's in Spanish seems to take my inability to the next level.
Now is there any tips for this? Or will Spanish people recognise I'm a useless, Cockney Englishman, with a terrible R problem and still understand what I'm trying to say?
I.E Do basic Spanish speakers from England fail to roll the tongue properly and are still understood okay?
I find myself almost dribbling onto my phone trying to repeat phrases currently![]()
