what a night. by the time this week's resident band a.human started
playing the dancefloor was still almost empty so its singer decided to
come down to sign one song from there which was fun..... cool concert,
which included a cover of donna summer's i feel love. the fact one of the
members of cage the elephant was wearing a beautiful MC5 t-shirt was an
indicator, apart from good taste, of what we were about to see: with
difference the most intense 30 minutes of live music we heard this
summer at ibiza rocks..... at moments it felt like we were seeing the
dwarves or new bomb turks, absolutely chaotic with a completely wasted
singer even climbing the speakers..... my fave concert of the summer
along with the fratellis. the truth is that everytime they bring hip hop
artists they get the biggest audiences..... as with dizzee rascal, the place
was rammed to see the streets and in the vip you could spot various
famous faces that usually you wouldnt see in a rock concert..... people
was so excited by the end that lots of them jumped in the pool singing
the intro of that classic called chelsea dagger. a night to remember ! !

the streets last night at ibiza rocks

i have to say i was sat in our local bar before the gig wasnt sure how it would turn up out (and i'm not exactly a big fan of the streets) - i was sceptical about how mike et al would do a live show - i was happy to be proved wrong. mike skinner had the audience eating out of the palm of his hand. It was easily the best gig i've seen in a long while.

He got the entire to audience to sit down twice, then asked them to split in half so he could go down the middle and asked them to crowd surf him back to the stage. At the end he told the audience to jump in the pool - so they did. An amazing gig, a sentiment echoed by everyone i spoke to afterwards.

hi de hi!!

The Streets have performed for Ibiza Rocks live for the last four years (even when Ibiza Rocks wasn´t really born ... they performed in the Music Box at Manumission).

Personally, i don´t like their music and would never buy an album or a single of theirs ...

However, these guys (well, Mike Skinner !) is just amazing live. I think he was born to perform on stage.

I was also there last night and it was amazing, best Ibiza Rocks gig of the summer i would say. Such an electric atmosphere and nearly every song had the crowd in raptures. Naturally i was at the back trying to look cool, but that didn´t work too well. But at least i didn´t get any cups of beer thrown over me !!

The crowd surfing was crazy and the security must have gone mental when everyone started jumping into the pool lol.

Wicked night !

Back on the white island, our respect goes out to The Streets for providing one of the craziest shows we've ever seen with Mike Skinner surfing the length and breadth of the crowd before the whole thing disintegrated into an impromptu pool party.

Terrific fun, just don't tell the health and safety people.

Thanks are also due to Cage The Elephant and A.Human whose excellent support - both musical and moral - was essential and appreciated.

Skinner 20.08.08 - Bodies in the bath

I ****ing love Ibiza. Absolutely up for it based. The Ibiza Rocks hotel kind of reminded me of Johnny Cash at Folsom prison as I walked out to the baying crowd of prisoners. In fact no, it was gladiatorial. I was Russell Crowe. Blood thirsty. Claustrophobic. Hot. The perfect holiday crowd. Surrounded by balconies, 4 stories high. Tanned people stamping their feet to some inner house tune (and a few of mine). So many possibilities - the Go Low... tick. The Don't Know... tick. The Moses... Standard. All the time as toilet roll streams from the rooms like white carnival ribbons

And then there was the ending. There was a perfection to the way it ended. Suddenly it wasn't so much warriors in battle. It was renaissance art. It was a sculpture. It was ballet. The final Go Low is normally the peak but I created a beautiful child. I have to actually apologise to the venue for our flouting of the rules. Mayhem came up to me at the end after the final Go Low shouting, "GET THEM IN THE POOL!". I couldn't believe it. It was so simple.

Art sometimes happens in a split second. The flick of a brush. A chip off the block. "IN THE POOL!". If you can walk offstage while things are getting even more ****ed than when you were onstage then you've done something right. My child went from toddler to fully grown angry lagered up lad in the space of the next cataclysmic 15 minutes. The police were called. It was a beautiful thing

THANK YOU IBIZA

soulwax at ibiza rocks

arguably the least impressive gig of the year

and their dj set afterwards was godawful

pics from ibiza rocks last night

all day i've been trying to think of redeeming features of last nights ibiza rocks - i'm stumped...

their alter-ego of 2manydj's were abysmal - a cr4p wedding dj couldve done better - they'd play an eurthymics intro which got the crowd going and then end it and go into bad euro pop techno leaving the audience going "er ???"

it was completely different to last weeks The Streets - and i'm looking forward to going to see The Holloways at the hotel this weekend for some decent live music, and then the zutons back at the hippodrome next week

anyway, some pics:

Massive thanks to those eclectic maestros of electronica/guitar fusion Soulwax/2MANYDJS who took the Ibiza Rocks crowd to the moon and back last Tuesday night.

Also along for the ride were surprise special guests The Holloways - our respect and gratitude goes out to the bands, the crowd and everyone else who made it so special.

peter colours which rocked as usal, covering this time radio killed the radio star.
what to say about the zutons? simply amazing..... they are on top of
my list as best concert of the season, along with the fratellis ! !

black kids & the zutons at ibiza rocks

arguably the best gig of the season so far - it was right for the black kids to be billed as co-headliners. i'd heard their songs on the radio before but didnt realise it was them so to see them live was a bonus. The Zutons were fantastic, real bluesy, guitar driven rock - and funny to boot.

First-up, a massive thanks must go out to both The Zutons and Black Kids for proving last week that they fully warrant their places among Indie Rock's shimmering firmament.

Both bands turned in stellar shows that left the audience grinning from ear-to-ear, beautifically blissed out and chanting the tunes all the way back to the airport.
banners_01.gif
The final show of the Ibiza Rocks 2008 season is upon us and this year we're going out with a bang you could measure on the Richter Scale.

Guaranteed to boom, boom and most definitely shake the room are drum and bass gods Pendulum - their live show truly is the stuff of legend.

Representing the UK will be scalding hot electro outfit The Whip. This Manchester band are doing the legendary city proud and blowing up fast. Not one to miss.

Finally, rounding out one of the finest bills you're ever likely to see anywhere, are the soon-to-be-massive Iglu & Hartly. Trust us - where this LA band goes, the party soon follows. We'd bet their shirts on them being household names within the year if they ever wore any.

There're also the usual top notch DJs, Steve Aoki and Doorly, on hand to keep the party rocking with all your Ibiza favourites.

The venue is the mighty Hipodromo and we'll be laying on free buses leaving from Bar M from 6.30pm, plus free return buses back to the afterparty, which starts at Bar M and then moves back the hotel.

No excuses will be accepted for missing this final blow out and, with VIP tickets already sold out, anyone wanting in must move fast.

Click here to snap up the final few tickets.
