Jellyfish situation?

i go swimming most days in the south - es codolar, salinas, sa caleta - i can't remember the last time i saw one. we've been really lucky this year, which is surprising given the temperatures.
 
talking of sea remps, really disappointed that https://www.seatemperature.org/europe/spain/ibiza.htm has been stuck on 23.9c for weeks now - even though the date is correct. Also this is down too :-( http://www.aemet.es/es/eltiempo/observacion/satelite/pderiv?opc2=mar
However the aemet site does give the current sea water temperatures http://www.aemet.es/es/eltiempo/prediccion/playas/playa-de-llevant-0 and amazing 30c *sea temp, not air temp!!* around Formentera.

Cannot ever recollect sea temperatures so high, and I'm expecting the sea temps to be around 24c+ even in October. Gonna be a long time before the evenings cool down!
 
There were a lot of them at cala llenya last tuesday, then a few of them dotted about during the week. The red pelagia.

Saw a few people who had stings, obviously not the worst in the world but not pleasant either.
 
Any problems with Jellyfish recently around San An/Cala Gracio? Is the Medusas app still functioning? TIA
 
While snorkeling in Punta Galera today, saw lots of tiny beings made of jellyfish tissue (tiny spheres, some stretched, about 1cm in size). Must be baby jellyfish? Seems another jellyfish invasion is impending...
 
I go snorkelling everyday at the moment ( on the west coast )in the morning and also before sunset . They are none in morning time and very few late afternoon ! You have to be unlucky if you get stung.
But the best way is always to wear a diving mask, you see them meters in advance
 
I got stung on a busy day at Cala Conte a few weeks ago, wasn't too painful at the time but still have an itchy patch now and not completely healed yet. Will definitely be checking in the future.
 
Then I'll just open the jellyfish report 2024, there's supposedly a real plague on mallorca at the moment... any sightings of these creatures on ibi ?
 
Do these jellyfish keep together in a swarm, which is why some days/times a beach can have loads of them or none at all?

I am no expert, but I think think wind /sea current is one of the biggest factors. One day on a beach you can have thousands, wind changes and then next day nothing. Download the "Medusas Ibiza" App as that factors all this in I believe.
 
The ‘Medusas Ibiza’ is working. I’m not sure if it needs people to be reporting at the beaches for it to be accurate. Found it helpful over the past few seasons.
