Is tourism in Ibiza at breaking point?

Where are those "outdoor discos with unbearable noise" that won't let residents sleep at night??

what I think they're saying is that somewhere like Ibiza Rocks is really loud and then disperses a load of rowdy kids into the streets who then carry on in the street or in their apartments. I don't think they literally meant that clubs were flouting the 'no partying under the stars' rules. My guess is that quite a few people are disturbed, esp shift workers or people with kids, pets

yeah sorry mate I guess I understand what you mean, but how you can really call that 'good news' is beyond me.

1. nobody was hurt.
2. it’s more what it symbolises. The obscene, vulgar wealth that is destroying the social equilibrium whilst people go without homes.

when i walk through ibiza harbour and see those super yachts there, part of me feels sick tbh.

Luxury yachts provide LOTS of jobs (and thus, homes) to shipyard workers, suppliers, crews, maintenance workers etc.

The 20 million Euro price tag for the yacht went into someone's salaries (and thus into homes, vacations, gifts and other nice things). No need to feel sick about luxury yachts - this industry provides employment to hundreds of thousands of people.

Classic ‘trickle down’ economics. The super rich shaft everyone and pay zero tax, but hey at least they employ a few servants…

Some facts:

Oxfam did a study called Carbon Inequality Kills in 2024. It tracked the emissions from private jets, yachts and polluting investments. Their analysis found that the carbon footprint of a super-rich European, accumulated from nearly a week of using super yachts and private jets, matches the lifetime carbon footprint of someone in the world’s poorest 1%.
  • One ultra-rich European takes an average of 140 flights a year, spending 267 hours in the air and producing as much carbon as the average European would in over 112 years.
  • In the same period, an ultra-rich European on their yachts emits, on average, as much carbon as an ordinary European would in 585 years.

And that’s before you get on to all the shady people, the tax dodgers, the launderers, the gangsters and others who use these vessels, or the billionaires who ruthlessly exploit filipino deckhands.

But hey let’s make it about me, yeah?

When has this never been the case in history?
Everyone in here cares m8 but ur passion does back u into a corner at times, can’t be happy about boats blowing up really!

1. “Everyone in here cares” lol

2. Why am I so militant about it? Maybe cos I’ve spent 10 years in BCN and seen the systematic social collapse firsthand, even in my own block of flats.

3. Fk superyachts. Fk private jets. Fk VIP culture. (Plenty of people agree btw, not just loud commies)

4. If people don’t want to read this stuff, mute me now. This thread was set up to discuss the serious stuff though, so sorreee for getting serious…

Not looking for a fallout and I don’t doubt you’ve seen some things.
And yeah I’m pretty sure most people care, just the being happy about things blowing up bit like i say, bit of a mad one. But my moral compass has always been slightly shite. Haha probably should mute u but Il leave it for now 👍 I mean no harm and agree with you on most points regarding the wider issue

Just to clarify. I don’t come on here looking for fights (anymore 😂) but I will use extreme language to make a principled point. Had anyone died on that ship, I obv would not have posted it.

Anyway, back to the thread >>

Interesting headline in today's La Vanguardia. Businesses in Baleares are recording a 30% drop in tourist spending even though the overall number of visitors is up
