Is this the end for day parties in Ibiza?

I can understand it from both sides, in that only those living in Ibiza must know what it's like with the tourists coming in every year and the change it has on the island. No one's suggesting that doing drugs is legal, and anyone that thinks it is is probably going to get caught, but I just think the attitude of trying to transform Ibiza into a St Tropez of the Balearics and the ferocity of the words coming from the consel this time is worrying.

I guess only time will tell.....

the only place without afterhours??

i'd love to know where else in the world you get clubs open after 6am...

ibiza has been the only place with afterhours

imho its minority idiots who have/will ruin it for the majority

if you want a classic example of how to ruin a tourist resort look at ayia napa - i'm sure they would far rather have clamped down earlier and run the risk of losing a few clubbers than let it go the way it went

ibiza i think is going through a kneejerk reaction - the winter should be interesting - lets see what happens

Come to Holland. There are clubs all over the place which are open all sunday for example.

Do these politicians think the average St Tropez, Cannes, Monaco visitor has no interest in drugs and / or music??

Singer Jimmy Buffett might normally be looking for his lost shaker of salt, but was detained and later fined for allegedly having more than 100 pills of what seemed to be Ecstasy. However, the singer was not arrested for the drugs, but served a $400 fine and released to continue his vacation.
The “Margaritaville” singer was held after arriving at Toulon-Hyeres International Airport, and customs officials discovered what was described as “illicit drugs.” He arrived at the airport on a private plane for a vacation in the resort town of Saint-Tropez. Airport customs inspectors have been quoted in the local reports as stating Buffett (59) had more 100 tabs of Ecstasy with him.

I cannot imagine the Ibiza authorities would be so lenient?????

the president of the consell insular and the 5 majors had a reunion yesterday and as expected.....

 the fight against the after-hours will be based on the san antonio model

the consell insular and the town halls already anticipated the possibility that banning the after-hours will cause the appearance of illegal parties along the coast or in other public or private spaces. "the will is to fight together all these things that are illegal, because we dont like the illegal things", said tarrés.
from the ibiza sun:

Transport Agreement

A meeting between the president of the Consell, Xico Tarres, and the mayors of the five municipalities ended with all six agreeing it was necessary to create a consortium to try and unify public transport on the island. Until this point all five municipalities have run their own transport systems, and so anyone travelling from the airport to Cala Pada, for instance, would have had to change three times and buy three separate tickets. The new consortium will be in charge of ensuring a variety in the routes on offer, frequency of service and a unified cost. Tarres revealed they wanted to put the consortium together quickly, in order to solve this problem as soon as possible.

The six men also agreed the battle against "after hours" clubs and bars needed to begin in earnest, following the example of San Antonio. Tarres admitted the problem now was that there were no guidelines for people to adhere to. He said his administration would continue to follow the lead set by Jose Sala, the mayor of San Antonio, in cracking down on the "open all hours" bars and clubs.

if it means dc10 is saved by opening at midday then im all for it

people out on it will find a way to party whether its in a licensed establishment or not

 san josé will regulate the opening times to avoid afterhours next summer
"from next season the town hall wants to introduce a new by-law to regulate the opening times of the clubs so they can not open before 12 noon"
"they explained that dc10 only has cafe concierto licence, a ridiculous permit that doesnt allow people to dance inside the venue. according to them, this venue -which, along with bora bora, the other clubs and the government usually name when talking about illegal venues- has lots of denounces but havent been shut yet due to the slowness of the court system"
"the existing by-law was created in 1987, when nothing of what we have now existed, so everything is deregulated"

 the town halls noticed a rise of illegal parties
"theres no legislation to stop them. the clubs are public places so they can enter, but not in a private house. they are looking for legal ways to stop them and will also inform the villa owners that they will be fined if they rent their houses for that kind of activities"

SEE YOU ON JUNE,1ST SPACE IBIZA 8.am :!::!:

Well, 12 seemed like the common consensus when talked about last winter, so it's not a huge surprise.

DC10 and even We Love won't be that affected to be honest. DC10 is pretty sparse in the morning and Space, while fairly busy, is never rammed at that time, apart from Closing/Opening.

The likes of Matinee will be effectively over though I'd assume?

Why would Matinee have to be over? They can also start at 12.00 PM and continue till 10, 11 of 12 in the evening I think. Correct me if I'm wrong..

 the government supports the messures against the afterhours because it will reduce the consumption of drugs
"next summer will be more ordered and calm and its coexistence with the family tourism will be easier"

The problem is ,what all these clubber will do at 8.am or 9.am ... ???that's the problem, wake up government, you have to let open some place like space,dc 10,or others afters ... because if they all go to the beach or the city or ...,the coexistence with the family will be MUCH MORE catastrophic!!!

They will wake up!!!

I definitly agree with you! The clubbers will have no place to go!
So they will hang around at beaches, cafés, city ... or they will disturb the family tourists by hanging around in their hotel room or on the pool making their own after hour!

The government need to realise it is club culture that has made Ibiza famous worldwide and created alot of wealth on the island. The stance they are taking now is a bit OTT. They need to talk to the club owners, promoters etc and agree a happy medium so that all can coexist and enjoy their holidays. But the message at the moment is just anti club:evil:

i'm afraid that being famous works both ways. whilst for the majority of our readers ibiza's clubbing reputation is a good thing, the majority of non clubbing folks see it as a bad thing. who in their right mind would want to spend a week here with you lot with yer 'ave-in-it large and yer carnage?????

Sun sets on Ibiza clubs that party after dawn

As the birthplace of so-called chill-out music, Ibiza's famous "post-rave" clubs
have long been a favourite way to end a long night on the tiles.
Now, however, the nightspots where partygoers watch the sun come up
may be closed forever thanks to a planned crackdown
by the island's licensing chiefs.

Anxious to curb the drug culture on Ibiza - part of the island's allure to many of the 500,000 British holidaymakers who visit every year - officials want an end to clubs that stay open well into daylight hours. In an attempt to revert to more mainstream "quality" tourism, they say Ibiza's legendary nightspots should keep times that fit in with normal "human biorhythms".

A statement from the Consell Insular Elivissa, Ibiza's council office, said: "We are not prepared to let the island be identified with madness. The night should start and end when it really is the night, and the hours of the discos should adapt to human biorhythms."

It added: "Those people who come here just to spend their days in the discos
do not interest us."

This being the Balearics, what counts as normal licensing hours is generous.
Few Ibiza rave clubs shut before 6am, reflecting the popularity among their patrons of amphetamines and ecstasy, which inhibit feelings of fatigue.
It is, however, the "post-rave" clubs, which fill up after 6am,
that are in the authorities' sights.

Also known as "after-hours" clubs, such establishments first developed in the early days of rave culture as places where revellers could rest their feet, talk without having to shout, and relax while the effects of drugs wore off.
Because they played mainly quiet, soothing sounds rather than the booming beats
of rave music, the Spanish authorities tended not to view them as a problem.

They even spawned their own brand of laid-back and atmospheric music - known as
"chill-out" - which is now popular in clubs and bars around the world.

In recent years, however, many have increasingly become straightforward extensions of full-on rave clubs,
simply allowing parties and drug-taking to go on for several extra hours.
Although the proposed crackdown is still at the consultation stage,
officials are determined to push it through.

José Manuel Bar, the head of the council that runs Ibiza, told The Sunday Telegraph:
"We need a more restrictive regulation of the club opening hours.
Without after-hours clubs, there will be a fall in the drug-taking, a fall in the number of people going to hospital suffering from overdoses and fewer arrests for possession of these [illegal] substances."

Mr Bar said the island, a haunt of celebrities such as Sienna Miller, Jade Jagger
and James Blunt, should adopt a "zero tolerance" attitude towards drugtaking.

"In Ibiza, not everything goes," he added.

Last week, as the clubs closed their doors for the traditional end of season parties, police said that 900 people had been arrested in the year for drug possession - about the same as in 2006.

At one point, exasperated by the relentless war against drug dealers inside the main dance venues, the local authorities took the unprecedented step of closing three of the biggest clubs. Amnesia, a venue that attracts young clubbers from across Europe through its doors, was closed for a month for its "lax attitude" towards drug taking, and fined €6,000 (£4,070).

Bora, Bora and DC-10, two other big clubs, were forced to close their doors
for one month and two months, respectively.
DC-10 and Bora, Bora are among the best-known after-hours clubs.

But Pedro Vidal, president of the Spanish discotheque owners' association,
said that cutting the hours of the clubs would do nothing to stop the drug trade.
"If we start cutting back hours, it will be worse," he said.
He added that he did not understand why a club opening during the day
presented a problem, if it was soundproofed and had its licence in order.

The Mind Group manager Ceto Geray :

What would happen to In Bed With Space if rumours of restrictions on daytime partying become reality?

Such rumours have been around for years, but I don’t believe they will actually happen because the whole image of the island would collapse, no one could finance it. I’ve been a promoter with Space longer than anyone and the management has
always been excellent, so they wouldn’t be kicking anyone out. Everything there is built upon trust, so even if daytime parties were stopped I’d anticipate finding another time to party!

All these councils and government 'messengers' said what they said just to calm down the media and give the people what they wanna hear (people = the 'normal' ones, not us 'crazy' clubbers).

Bottom line is that clubbers will always find a way to party and keep the night going on for a few more hours... that's what we live for, so wake the fcuk up!

most 'normal' ibizan clubs close around 7ish.
'after hours' like space open at 8
they don't want 'after hours' opening before 12 noon.

this is a whole lot of the council's time, effort and money being directed at 4 little hours
