Is the music in clubs too loud or am I too old?

I now always wear my cheapy foam earplugs when I go out, with my superduper ER15s hopefully ready in the next week or so..

Is it just me or is the music getting painfully loud? It's not too bad if it's a good system and it's turned up to a level that can handle it, but when someone's peaking a 8k plus system it feels like my head is going to explode..

Am I the only one who thinks clubs are getting too loud? Is it really necessary to have the music so loud that it actually hurts your ears?

Or am I just a whiney old bastard who should stay home and take up pipe-smoking and model trainsets..

8K

Marky Marky. Take that pipe and slippers and go home

Seriously. There's probably something wrong with the system if 8K is hurting your ears 8O

Didn't want to tell you, Mark, but since you've mentioned it, you're just a whiney old bastard

Try not standing in front of the speakers. It helps ;)

Unfortunately they won't let me choose where to DJ in a club :P

j_love - do it mate!

I am going to have to join the whiny old farts club here in some respects... sometimes it is so loud my ears are ringing into the next morning

That's permanent damage kiddies!
I'm already half deaf... too many times when I didn't pay attention to where I was standing and spent to much time in front of the speakers (with subsequent ringing and temporary deafness).

The missus is always complaining that I turn the volume up too loud. I also ask people to repeat things a lot.

Another excuse to continue smoking, drinking, eating whatever, etc... I've got to restrict the lifespan to the remaining time left on the ears 8O

I never have any problem with ringing in my ears and the music in the Box @ Ministry is soooo loud. Tom on the other hand has ringing for a day afterwards to the point where I'll be talking to him and he says he can't hear me, altho I do think that's just a ploy to ignore me

I'm really glad you brought this up Mark...

Due to my 11 year non stop clubbing career, my ears are finally giving up on me. I'm a sufferer of the dreaded tinnitus. :(

Believe me, hearing loud ringing in your ears 24/7 can be akin to Chinese water torture - it ain't pretty.

I think many clubs play music at ridiculously high levels, sometimes not at all balanced to the size of the venue.

I noticed you've shelled out for some posh ear plugs - do they show when you've got them in?...how much were they?...and where did you seek advice on where to get them?

Thanks! ;)

Someone said to me once that when the music is too loud ure too old.

but at least u will be able to still listen to music when ure older unlike the rest of us who'll be stone deaf. :D

I developed tinnitus a few years back and I'm starting to realize that I'm slowly losing my hearing. At first I thought it was a little funny, but now I'm scared and I wear earplugs all the time. The thought of losing my hearing and not being able to indulge in my one true passion, music, is quite frightening to me. I can't imagine my life without music- I want to be an old man and still be able to enjoy it!

Just got this first 6 months ago and it's ringing louder every month it seems :(

Very bad if you need to get some sleep and you're not really that sleepy... totally impossible to pass out as you will hear that tone constantly there in your head 8O 8O 8O

I guess I'll just have to listen to even louder music so that I go completely deaf. That would take away the ringing, wouldn't it :? :x :x

If I get too close to a speaker or the music is too loud, my right ear starts to sound staticy, like I'm trying to pick up a radio frequency. :? :? It sucks...I know.

Allo mate :)

I havent actually taken delivery of them yet, but I know Robbie G has a set and swears by them (as do many professional djs). Visit:

www.hearingprotection.co.uk

And look at locations. Give Geraldine Daly a call and she'll set up an appointment to get a foam-cast of your ear canal (wierd feeling but not unpleasant). You then wait 3 weeks and presto, earplugs that filter frequency evenly so you can enjoy the same music but at lower levels.

Cost is £170 - but what price do you put on your hearing?

I've noticed lately that my ears still ring in some clubs with my cheapo foam earplugs in! You have to ask if that kind of volume is really necessary for the enjoyment of the music..

I might want to invest in those soon Mark. I cannot wear the foamy ones for too long... my ears are TINY and when the plugs are puffed up in there my ears start hurting horribly   Having some custom ones would rock!

As Mark says ive got a set a of the fancy ones and i love them. I have got mild tinnitus and my ears used to kill me after a night out. With the Earplugs in my ears dont hurt at all.
