i'd like to say that i haven't been to a single place any of you mentioned on this thread and i think ibiza is just fine.

there's so much more to it that hasn't changed at all in many years.

the problem about being party capital of the universe is that all you party animal change your tune about what's hot and what's not every five minutes.

however the great thing about our little island is that all that grafted on 'ibizaness' can be avoided so easily. i do it every day

(i would like to go to begur though)

Whereabouts do you live in Ibiza Stephen?

i live right in the middle of 'guirilandia' as the area round san antonio is known to the 'ibbies'!

I've only been clubbing and going to Ibiza since 1998, I think there are far more pretentious people in all clubs now, and people clapping at the sunsets...why? So not chilled out

Barcelona on the other hand was fantastic, clubs were belting... Danceatoria (sp?) - free to get in! and what a beautiful club and La Terrezza - superb and just everyone up for a great time.

I'm going to Barcelona for a few days (and Sitges) before i head to Ibiza.... i think i may have to attend Danzatoria (i think correct spelling)....is it free all the time or just certain nights??? Anyone else know of good clubs in Barcelona (besides Pacha, will wait for the one on the island)????? Sorry, this is a sidebar! :o ;)

Ibiza - what happened?

Well....this will be my first time in Ibiza, so i can't comment too much....however, i am probably about your age (early 30's ;) ), and i've been in the scene a looong time. It has changed as far as the corporate sellout, i agree....but i just wish everybody will not forget the music. I'm pretty sure that is what ppl are still on the island for (except maybe these so called beer boys, i know these types!!!!!!! :? ). I also hate pretentious people...i like to look good but hate the attitude some ppl have to go along with it. I remember when it was all about having a good time, adn that is what i'm there for. I think it may depend on where you go. Go where ur most comfortable. ;) :)

ahhh a thread I can participate in.

Well my firsttrip was in 2000 and I must admit that eversince it seemed like it became more and more crowded and commercial but this year (maybe cause I went so early in end of June) the place wasnt rammed at all.

I agree the strip HAS become a tad too cheesy and the food is not for humans, but go for the sunset and have a drink or sangria and eat elsewhere, the food has become CHOCKINGLY bad!

I have discovered new asprects of the isle now, and I will defo be spending #2 this year in ibiza town, away from the strip as I have been offered to stay with a promoter i know in her villa near the town.....

I think san an will always be san an, but there are so many other things to do so no worries!

Hi, I'm a newbie - go easy!

I have just got back from Ibiza and this is the first time I have been since 1992 (I also went in '89 & 90) and maybe its cos i'm older etc but frankly I think Ibiza has disappeard up its own ar*e.

What a bunch of pretentious wanna-be's everywhere you look.

Seal's clapping at sunset (and oh so many of them!?)

San An - was just as I expected, only bigger. What happened to the good old Star Club? :D

Kentucky Fried Chicken and Burger King populated by football top wearing English twats! Shocking!

Ibiza old Town was a lot better but still - there was just soooo many pretentious see/and be seen type people kicking around.

I was well disappointed with the clubs too. Again, maybe because I can remember the fantastic parties back in the day (music that is now classed as old skool) but the prices to get in and the prices for drinks were just plain stupid!? Corporate sh*te everywhere you look. Just a complete sell out basically.

A mate of mine summed it up very well when one night we were sitting in a bar - looking round he said...'Of course you know where we are don't you?' Er, yes mate we do! 'Ibiza having a beer in Dome' - (we thought he had smoked one too many) - 'Nah, we are in a audtion for Popstars - The Rivals' True enough, when we looked round at Mullet central we knew where he was coming from! :)

El Divino was a great addition to the super clubs though I must admit - lovely setting.

Barcelona on the other hand was fantastic, clubs were belting... Danceatoria (sp?) - free to get in! and what a beautiful club and La Terrezza - superb and just everyone up for a great time.

I don't want to pish people off with my first post (and I guess I might do) but I just have to say -

Ibiza - had its heart wripped out and has sold it soul to the corporate dollar.

Peace. 8)
old git! ;)

Can I just say ... this year was the first time I've managed a whole day through to night at and around Bora Bora .... At 5 pm, that place is heaving ... people on the tables, arms in the air, singing along - wearing little, and certainly not dressed up; everyone there JUST for the music and the whole happy vibe of the place !! Bora Bora did more for me than most clubs ! Loved it !

Well I spent half a day there earlier this week, and there was a bit of an attitude, the staff were quite surly, and there were lots of bronzed arrogant italiano types standing around (there are even more of them in the non San-An clubs, bumping and barging past you without a "sorry", stubbing you with their fags, not really getting into the music. grr!)

Here's the thing... there will always be people around that you don't care for. So what? You don't have to be friends with them. Just have a great time and ignore the people you don't want to deal with. If you let people who aren't "into the music" or are "pretentious" ruin your day or night you're wasting your money, your time, and a great vacation!

Okay clubbing is business nowadays. And I understand why there is people who don´t like it. But there is many positive things too. For example sound and light in clubs. After one night clubbing back eighties your ears just beeped two days. Now you go to dancefloor of Space and sound just blows you mind. And lights - there were just spots 15 years ago.

Yeah, but when you're burned by these cigarette wielding people 3 or 4 times in a night as they bump, barge and push into you time and time again with no apology it gets on your tits a bit!

Of course, having said all that, I still had a great time...;-)

BORA BORA made my Ibia this year. I think the international atmosphere made such a good difference for the best. Everyone still in their beachwear 'aving on the tables, smiling, hands in the air, some right good messes dancing till midnight every day. Quality!! :D

Things aren't going to stay still are they ? Either in music land, or club land .. and it's a good thing too, else we'd all be bored as farts ! Some changes you might not like, but then that will lead you to look elsewhere and discover something new, so it's all good ! :D
