GALLAGHER CONVINCED KASABIAN TO ROCK IBIZA
01/08/2006

OASIS star NOEL GALLAGHER persuaded fellow British rockers KASABIAN to join the line-up for Spanish music event Ibiza Rocks this month (11AUG06) - because he is convinced the rock extravaganza will rocket the band to global stardom. The WONDERWALL guitarist, who owns a residence on the Balearic island, is determined to help the CUTT OFF stars gain the recognition they deserve. But although they have taken his advice, the rock wild-men fear their entourage may prove a little raucous even for feisty Gallagher. Guitarist SERGE PIZZORNO says, "We've never been to Ibiza so we're talking to Noel about doing Ibiza Rocks. He said it's the final piece of the pyramid for us. "It'll be a case of lock all the doors when we get to the Manumission villa. We're not staying at Noel's. Everyone's maddest friends are coming out so it could get messy, and we wouldn't want to do that to the man."

Futureheads have cancelled. Now it's just Baby shambles.
The Shambles have cancelled - there is no live music at Bar M tonight.

Now it's just Trash Pussies with Peaches Geldof.

Ibiza Rocks Mini Festival

The Underground Heroes, The View and The Automatic played at the opening night of Ibiza Rock's three day mini festival last week. Together the three guitar wielding bands pulled off an amazing night of young rock music and with energy like theirs it easy to see how new scenes are made. First up were the Underground Heroes from Chatham, Kent. www.myspace.com/undergroundheroes On the verge of being signed, their tunes are bursting with new pop punk catchiness. Eg, the first was called Lost in Dundee and begins with a catchy "Where did you get that hat" vocal line. Another is called Stella the Mistress which is to be the band's first single. It goes "Stella the mistress makes all the world go round," Totally charismatic, they set the bar so high, that within the first few chords of their set, they had laid the foundation for a really vibrant night. After their set they were signed up to support the next band, The View on their forthcoming tour. The View are a four piece band from Dundee who have an album waiting in the wings to give a rattle to the Monkey's cage www.myspace.com/drybugh Vocals are shared between Kyle Falconer and Kieran Webster, singing about posh boys, DJs and superstar tradesmen this band capture the hearts and imaginations with their real life lyrics and frenzied and bluesy guitar. No pretensions, no set lists, no pedals just good honest tunes. Mid set Kieran took a Scottish flag from the audience emblazoned with the band's motto, THE VIEW ARE ON FIRE, They certainly are. By the time they got to their current single "Wasted little DJs" the crowd were good humouredly joining in from the pit! I really wish these bands tons of luck and hope they come back to Ibiza next year.

The View only spent a day on the island before dashing off to the airport to get to a gig in Bristol but they were really glad to have had the opportunity to play at Ibiza Rocks where at about this time last year Babyshambles played at the same venue, . It's less than a year since The View shoved their demo into the hands of Pete Doherty when he was doing a gig in Dundee, then proceeded to take them on tour with Babyshambles

Anyway, Vic Galloway held the fort while The Automatic set up. What a difference a debut album makes and a run of singles from it. 'Raoul' saw the first crowd surfer, 'Recover' was another crowd frenzying number, but it was like the whole of San Antonio turned up to hear this summer's catchiest tune, MONSTER. Alex Pennie on keyboard and vocals was surely man of the match, but he didn't venture into the crowd. "At Reading and Leeds I was almost strangled when fans grabbed my t-shirt!" he told me.

Captain and The Cribs played Tuesday night. What a contrast! Rather than kicking into action Captain opened with the softest of synths hushing their audience and then with a close harmonied, classy set, this five piece band showcased their captivating month old debut album, "Hazelville" building up from paper thin to huge layers of full on sound. A hard act to follow and Yorkshire's finest punksters, The Cribs didn't rightly know what to do next. "Come on Ibiza," slurred frontman, Ryan Jarman, in rolled up jeans, "I'm more drunk than you and you're supposed to be on holiday! Give it large! Where's the lads?" Obviously this wasn't going to be the night for a nu-wave riot.Lots of the artists who've been to Ibiza Rocks this summer have fallen in love with the island. Chris Peck of Boy Kill Boy seems to be one of them, playing in July with Dirty Pretty things he said it was the first time he'd been to Ibiza. Well he was "Back Again" (or did he even leave?) and on the closing night of this mini festival BKB played an absolute diamond of an acoustic set with his band before the idiosyncrasies of Dirty Sanchez.

The sound was spot on and the well thought out set ran like this: Back Again, Civil Sin, a cover of The Cure's Catch, and See Saw, about the ups and downs of life. Boy Kill Boy dedicated up coming single Shoot me Down to Andy and Dawn McKay of Ibiza Rocks they played the one that everybody asks for, 'Suzie'. The audience were a delight and between them and the band you could feel the love. You could have heard a pin drop as the band left Peck alone with his guitar to sing 'On My Own.' It was breathtakingingly beautiful. The band returned and brought everyone round with a cover of Nelly Furtado's 'Maneater'! Boy Kill Boy really pulled something magical out of the hat with this acoustic set.

Love you long time!
