Tech house is like any other genre. There’s good and bad depending on your tastes. The real loopy tech house is for the most part boring and bad to me. I think HS82 does a pretty good job at keeping tech house fun and interesting.

ive just listen to HS82 at tobacco 2h set as some contact made a publication saying , handsome :D
10-15mn OK , the rest zZZZ!!! its not complicated to put banging tracks...his sounds looks cool but u get bored quickly Carlos Manaca does nice tech house (he sometimes invite a drummer on his set as he is not stupid as many djs not thinking their set can be boring some add on stuff such a drummer, but he never played in ibz

Na theres just bad

All down to taste then because Lawler and Fanciulli bore me to tears. The once a year test is a good point imo

Didn't expect this tech house discussion to explode like this!

I saw Fanciulli one week after the next in Ibz (first time was with Joris Voorn tho) and I still enjoyed what he played. He did repeat a couple of tracks but they were good tracks so can't complain.

Lawler I saw at Savannah for a preparty last year. Set admittedly had no flow, and my listening palette was clear cuz it was the first day of my trip, so it was especially disappointing but he dropped some really great tracks. I've seen Lawler kill it in the past with crazy tribal house and with techno as well so I still think he's good. Fanciulli had his electo house stuff in mid 2000s which was eh..but he's done well in Ibiza with Voorn and just guy played the craziest opening set ever when he opened for Sander Kleinenberg in Toronto

Like both these guys vary it up.. Cant forget voorn/Fanciulli dropping Seven Nation Army at Ushuaïa at 12:15 AM for Ants in 2016 ( really made me wish Ushuaia could be open later till 1 or something)

These new tech house guys..I dunno if they switch it up. I saw a live feed of Cuckoo Land and I think Latmun was on and it was that repetitive loopy tech house with boring drops.

Was it Nick Curly who commmented recently how much bad tech house there was and that 90% of it is rubbish.

I couldn’t agree more. I genuinely have no idea how so much of it gets released. I travel a lot so spend hours just listening to stuff on a plane, and some of it really is awful recently. Feels like the end of Minimal, when everyone realised that 95% of it was actually awful and only 5% (or less) was good material. It makes you appreciate how good the likes of Digweed, Gerber etc are when you listen to a 6 hour set of theirs.

Agree. There are a number of reasons for it, but can't help but feel social media and how quickly tracks blow up means more music needs to be made as it gets old quickly which means producers churn out any old rubbish. Joris Voorn recently wrote something about how not that long ago you could play a track for maybe 6 months before it became generally available. Now you're lucky to get a few weeks.

Also it seems like every DJ is making music on laptops on planes etc and I can't believe you can make good music in that way.

Good tech house tracks tho like this:

HS82 is probably 'proper' Tech House, but the term Tech House has been hi-jacked by the RnB/Hip Hop sampling, constant drop, only slightly better than EDM type producers.

When HS82 released the Little Black Book album that was genuinely one of the dance albums of recent times that I bought and listened to *a lot*

Any more announcements due this week?

Still waiting on Cox Dates, Cocoon Line Up, PVD new Trance night & Ushuaia Wednesday's!

agree we're surely due some more news? also quite a lot of nights haven't revealed their full-line ups yet. We're not that many weeks away from kick-off now :)
