Ibiza - end of season

Re:- San Antonio Bay in October...
Is it me or do more and more bars start closing down weeks before the end of the season?
When i first started going to Ibiza 10 years ago we always booked the last week in October (school holidays and young children at the time) - there was still a really good atmosphere and most bars and shops were open right up until October 31st. The last couple of years most places are shutting up shop early with last year being the worst in my opinion. When i was talking to other holiday makers last year they were saying that they would not come away again in Ocotber as 'nothing was open'.. if this keeps on the way it is i can see most places closing at the end of September. All i can say is thank god for the Pink Panther in the bay and Bucaneeros without these two places staying open the bay would be a ghost town at night. We even went up to the West End on a Friday 2nd week October - you could count the number of bars open on one hand. The season is short enough as it is without places closing down early. I love Ibiza and have been every year if not twice a year including out of season for the last 10 years. If Ibiza wants to attract more custom it needs to at least be 'open for business'!!!

no its not.is been like it for a number of years now.playa den bossa is the same.not enough people are booking for oct.i just feel sorry for all those people to have booked the last week.to finded that no where they really wanted to go is open.shows a good picture for those who it is first time.

like mentioned and i have said.soon it will be a 5 month season.even i have started to go late sept to at least see some people.saying that you could have got everyone in pdb bars in one and had a cracking night.once space shuts thats it.but the familys over past few years are not coming out like they used to.

its down to the tour ops to offer cheaper deals.pack em in.a half hotel does not make money.mine you lucky for some there hotel shuts early and they get upgraded to another free.ok i guess.but who likes to see a ghost town.some might say its the a/i hotels thats killed it.

well it has in a way.but i blame the normal people going esle where as well.and maybe the low euro rate put a lot off going to euroland places.

Not true. June is the best time to be there ...

yes - june (+ september).

... but it was not about "what month is the BEST" -
but rather in which month business is @ full force ...
... and june got slower and slower over the last years

Maybe i'm being a bit old fashioned but any month that is free from overcrowded beaches, football shirted lager louts & stifling hot tempertures must be a good time for visiting Eivissa? Generally, i/we like visiting the Island around September time though have also visited in late May/early June when the Island is in full bloom.

I wish for possibly returning their this year but as 3 foreign hol's are already booked for 2010 fitting Eivissa in the schedule could be tight.

+1.. :)

i'm planning on going 3 times a year ( once in the first few months, once in the summer and once in the late months )...

AI and the recession are partly to blame but surely the bars should stay open at least until the end of the season. Like Woodruffe said earlier it dosen't send a good example to holidaymakers who have come to the island for the first time. Don't get me wrong i do like the island a little quieter.. i'm 42 myself now but i do come away on holiday not only to relax but also to enjoy myself, have a few beers with my friends and family... nothing worse than walking through a 'ghost town' at 9pm in the evening..bars closed, shutters down - not good. This year we are booking for 2nd and 3rd week August!!!! this will be a total contrast to our holiday in October last year - better get my footy top and union jack shorts ready lol.. only jokin ;-)

Don't get me wrong guys as i don't want to come over as some kind of killjoy as i too also like a good time beit in a bar watching footy on Skysports with more than a pint or two also chatting/meeting the local's. Also i do like to get down on the beach either with the missus & grown up kids or on my own wishing i was still young & single again given the talent that would be on show:D. The chances are i'll/we'll probably still have a break their but it'll be def a late one as in two weeks time we're off to the Canaries, June in Crete & Sept diving on Santorini.:) No doubt i'll be keeping the group upto date of my Ibiza plans during the coming year in the mean time here's hoping the cold snap that's with us now will soon go away & Spring/Sumer in W Europe will be a good one weather wise;)

Regards

... now it´s actually rather a 3-month-season (july/august/september)
than a 5-month-season ...

bars opening

As most of the regulars on these forums know I have managed the pink panther bar for 20 years and for all those year and as long as I am there I will open the week before easter and close on 30th october, even if the bar is empty I still believe as long as there are tourists coming to san antonio bay then then we should be open.I have seen that ryanair is putting a full programme of flights from 7 regional airports this year from 27th of march, so that is when we will open and hope for the sake of good public relations that other restaurants and bars will join me in offering a good service to those visitors. xx

Pink Panther

Hi Sue, the Pink Panther is always on top of my list to visit - great friendly atmosphere and OPEN!!! We visited Ibiza in April last year and your bar was busy.. you have the right attitude and i can imagine your bar being pretty busy all season. I'm going to try and make April and August this year so looking forward to your 'big jugs' ;-)x

Has the bubble finally burst for this party Island or has the Worlds recession/ poor exchange rate £ - euro had an affect on low visitor numbers?

uts not just the Has the Worlds recession/ poor exchange rate £.i have noticed over the past say 6 years it not like it used to be,numbers have really dropped off.even the months of may and oct it was still very busy.but not so much now.

how times have changes.ibiza still gets its fair share of the market.but i would only say for a good 3 months.those who do go say may/oct are the hardcore faithfull.
i would even go in nov/dec/jan.knowing only a few places are open.

gets me that some of the clubs don;t do like a themed weekend.week event.

70.80s
hip hop
rock
northern soul
funk alldayers
or get artists and groups on.asbeens but still going strong.

i know one year a group from yorkshire hired a club in san bay and did a northern soul week.300 + in one hotel.shipped out uk djs.i went one night and it was packed with not just those who had gone on trip but loads of other people like me.

and that was one late oct.

Now that would def get me back over to Ibiza if a Wigan Casino style Nothern Soul weekend was organized as a one of event, or even 60/70/80's disco & rock would do.:)
In my younger day i along with a few friends often went on Disco Cruise weekends leaving from Harwich - Rotterdam or upto Stavanger in Norway. Such great times back then though strutting my stuff today would be difficult with old age & more than a few extra kilo's slowing me down:oops:

well thats one of you for it.just another say 300 to get.space nightclub would be best as its got a few rooms.so you have say 60s in one 70s in another.modern ect.rare.ect
your looking at say people in there late 40s or 50s.but now i know there are alot of younger people getting into funk/disco/northern soul.mainly they like it or there parents play it to death in the house.

i remember going to alldayers in the midlands when you had n/s in one room and funk/disco in another.both worked well.

i have noticed that a dj i know plays a lot of old disco in his set on the beach bars.you know some of them are even better than the dance of today.and it gives the clubbers a way of getting to know where the old samples came from.

i bet if a dj played n/s in abar it would be packed everynight

ibiza has to cater for all now days.like ibizarocks has bought back live bands.

just a thought anyway....me i like a bit of both.but mainly a old funkmaster
