Ibiza clubs - 2006 ratings

Hello party people!

Now all the clubs are open it's time to name and shame. What was good? Who was bad? Which was ugly?

Mine (in alphabetical order) below:


Amnesia

Date(s) attended:

Monday June 19 (Cocoon opening)

Pluses:

The music - Ricardo Villalobos, Sven Väth and André Galluzzi were all tops.
The atmosphere - friendly and fun.

Minuses:

The early start - less time to warm up with a few drinks meant we had to rush a bit from Circo Loco @ Dc10.
Also there seemed to be fewer island faces this year. There have been reports workers on the list were charged 20€ - unusual for June.


Dc10

Date(s) attended:

Mondays June 5 & June 19 (Circo Loco)

Pluses:

The music - esp. on June 19. Plenty of exciting new tunes. Luciano & Ryan Elliott were stand outs.
The new carparking arrangement - disoriented clubbers now less likely to end up splattered on the road. Taxis can pull up with no problems.

Minuses - too crowded at the opening, they needed the outside terrace again. That's it really - Dc10 kicks ass!


Eden

Date(s) attended:

Sunday June 11 (Judgement Sundays opening)

Pluses:

The music in the back room - Krafty Kuts was great and the friendly crowd responded well.

The production - the dj booth had been moved to the end of the club nearest the entrance and a stage set up.

Minuses:

The music in the main room - apologies to trance fans, but I'd rather repeatedly hit myself over the head with a large rubber hammer. It would have approximately the same effect.

The interior - still stark and cold.


El Divino

Date(s) attended:

Thursday June 1 (Salvacion opening)

Pluses:

Pleasantly busy - lots of Italians having a good time.
The view - still the best of any club in Ibiza.

Minuses:

The interior - take away all the people and El Div looks in need of a refit.


Pacha

Date(s) attended:

Friday June & 16 (Pure Pacha), Thursday June 15 (Yosh1toshi/Retro)

Pluses:

The dancers - the good looking guys and girls are happy to pose for photos and give the club a real lift.
Alex Neri @ Pure Pacha - techno a refreshing change in the main room
Paul Taylor @ Retro - an impressive debut.

Minuses:

Lack of company - for some reason I hardly ever bump into people I know there.


Privilege

Date(s) attended:

Saturday June 3 (Privilege opening party)

Pluses:

The production - a Funktion 1 sound system! Lasers! Freaky dancers!

The crowd - pleasant and plentiful

Minuses:

The plumbing - a putrid waterfall on the outside of the building doesn't create a good impression.


Space

Date(s) attended:

Sunday June 4 (Space opening party), Sunday June 11 (15 Years Ibiza Dance), Wednesday June 14 (Home of La Troya opening party), Friday June 16 (La Comunidad opening party), Sunday June 18 (We Love opening party)

Pluses:

Plenty of action to choose from - a wide range of rooms and musical options.
The sound system and lighting - really rather good.
The outside terrace at Space opening - felt like something special.

Minuses:

I felt bad for the people who had problems getting in at Space opening.
Accidentally taking a photo of a girl's arse at We Love opening and enraging her husband :oops:


Underground

Date(s) attended):

Friday May 26

Pluses:

Free entry!
The club design - classy and hip.

Minuses:

The music gets a bit hard for me later in the evening.


Declaration of interests: I do the content for the Space site.

It's their night, they can charge what they like. If people don't like it they don't have to go.

It's nice to have a bit of warning tho.
 
Amnesia


Date attended – 17th June (Opening Party)

Pluses:

Repeated use of ice cannon.
Good mixed crowd.
Great music.
Excellent entry price.

Minuses:

Drink prices.

DC10


Date attended – 19th June (Circo Loco)

Pluses:

Best atmosphere in the island.
Friendly staff.
Great underground music.

Minuses:

Having to leave.
Not bumping into Mike & Stu.

Pacha


Date attended – 16th June (Pure Pacha)

Pluses:

Great DJs
El Cielo being packed and rocking.
More locals at this night.

Minuses:

Losing your friends for the night.
Hierbas is too expensive.
Not making it to the island in time to meet up with Mike.

Space


Date attended: 18th June (We Love…Space Opening)

Pluses:

James Zabielas set being the best of the weekend
Dave Clarke playing a balanced yet banging set.
Sunset terrace in the afternoon.
The new ice cannon there.
Spotlight ticket entry being soooo easy.

Minuses:

New terrace seems to have lost a bit of atmosphere.
What appeared to be a VIPish area in the new terrace.
Only getting there for 3pm and having little time for an afternoon session.

Mondays June 5 (Circo Loco Opening)

Pluses - Great atmosphere, really cool people, and perfect music to acompany the 'circus' of humanity. Met some really cool people from England.

Minuses - When we were trying to leave, the bouncers were not letting anyone out the front door and due to the outside terrace coming to a close minutes before, I thought something bad could have easily broken out (riot/stampede) it was scary:eek: cause people were starting to get a little psycho...



Pacha

Date(s) attended:

Wednesday June 7th (Subliminal Sessions Opening)

Pluses: Hot dancers, crowd, music. I got in free!!!


Minuses: 8 euro for a water! Was there all alone and didn't meet anyone... (probably because it was my 5th day of partying in a row and I was tired)


Privilege

Date(s) attended:

Saturday June 3 (Privilege opening party)

Pluses: Cheap entry, lots of people.

Minuses: Didn't seem like people were that into it (maybe saving themselves for space the next day, or maybe the club is just too big for its own good...) Didn't think the DJs were that good either


Space

Date(s) attended:

Sunday June 4 (Space opening party)

Pluses: Beautiful people, friendly, that giddy feeling of the start of a new season. Every time I went to the sunset terrace, the vibe was amazing! The carpark was a sight to see!


Minuses: There were spots of bad sound quality (too quiet) in the middle of the carpark (probably due to the massive area it covered). I had to leave when the party was over:(
 
Space

Sunday 18 June (WLS opening)

Pluses:

The sunset terrace in the daytime esp Jonathan Ulysses
Everyone being out there

Minuses:

The music on the new terrace (Woolford, Facuilli etc are just not peak time terrace DJs)
The stupid VIP area on the new terrace - takes up prime position on the terrace :rolleyes:

DC10

Monday 19 June (Circo Loco)

Pluses:

The music
The crowd

Minuses:

Gets stupidly busy later on

Amnesia

Monday 19 June (Cocoon)

Pluses:

Errrr can't really think of any :lol:

Minuses:

Eden

Tuesday 20 June (Gatecrasher Classics)

Pluses:

Great for a night of different music
Cheap entry

Minuses:

The toerag crowd

Pacha

Thursday 22 June (Renaissance)

Pluses:

Last meal with everyone

Minuses:

Didn't feel 100% and music was too proggy for my taste
In it's defence we left after couple of hours and apparently it got better

Space

Sunday 25 June (We Love Sundays)

Pluses:

The sunset terrace in the daytime
Sneak and Howells (the 2 best sets of the holiday)

Minuses:

The DJ line-up times being wrong and almost missing Sneak :eek:
Stupid VIP area as above
 
Amnesia

Date attended – 29th June (Cream)

Pluses:

Repeated use of ice cannon.

Great music.

Most of the crowd.

Atmosphere and laser's.


Minuses:

Drink prices.

Crowd at the start of the night, alot of piss heads shouting oooohh oooohh, thankfully subsided as the night went on.

Early closing and not getting to hear the last tune.


Eden

Tuesday 27th June (Gatecrasher Classics)

Pluses:

Great music

Surprisingly good atmosphere


Minuses:

Dave Pearce not being able to mix

Pacha

Saturday 24 June (Def Mix)

Pluses:

- Pacha is still THE most gorgeous venue
- Nicely busy, not too packed, friendly crowd
- Shapeshifters were suprisingly OK

Minuses:

- Frankie Knuckles due to come on at 4, we left at nearly 5 and he still hadn't started ... gutted.
- Slipping on a spilt drink and falling flat on my arse in the middle of the main dancefloor to loud cheering :oops: :lol:

Space

Sunday 25 June (WLS)

Pluses:

- Afternoon on the sunset terrace, what Ibiza clubbing is all about 8)
- Quality sets from DJ Sneak and Danny Howells
- Discovering the €9 bottles of Cava

Minuses:

- Not sure why, but for some reason the whole experience didn't quite grab me as much as previous WLS sessions ... maybe because was the first time I'd seen the 'new' Space so wasn't quite used to the new layout etc., too many rooms maybe, plus it wasn't exactly busy, and not massively friendly either ... and had the discoteca been cut in half or something? oh and the unnecessary VIP bit too. :confused:

DC10

Monday 26 June (Circo Loco)

Pluses:

- Combination of quality music and hugely up for it and varied crowd makes for the most exciting club atmosphere I've ever expericenced ... and better this time than previous years I've been. 8)
- Luciano, my new favourite DJ ... was expecting a load of bleepy minimal gubbins, but instead he banged out some rocking, almost tribally techno/house ... kept dropping the bass and bringing it back, man the reaction from the crowd when the beat hits, nearly shat myself ...! :oops: :lol: Liking the 70s porn star tache too. :p

Minuses:

- Can't really think of any ...!

nah its only a small bottle, but you can get 2 glasses out of it. from any of the bars ... :)
